About Me

My name is Pieter, I'm 22 and finished a bachelors in Cultural Anthropology in Amsterdam. After that, I moved back to Belgium to study Film Studies in Antwerp.

I am part of a band (you should listen to!) and started with photography very recently. Oh and I LOVE food. I'm always trying different food. I'm never afraid to try new flavors, or eating cultures. What people eat, teaches me a lot about their culture. I also love trying new things when cooking.

Obviously, my biggest passion is traveling. In January 2024 I will go outside of Europe for the first time. I'll travel a few months through Egypt, Uganda and Rwanda. I'm really looking forward to meeting a lot of different people there.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I really like solo traveling. Wherever I go, I always try to see the perspective of the locals: go places they love, do things they like doing, eat local cuisine... I think learning about different cultures is the most important thing if you want to try to understand the world. Couchsurfing can help me with traveling on a budget, meeting people, experiences places like locals, going off the beaten path, and more importantly, learning about the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I'm very adventurous when it comes to music and try a lot of new music, in all genres. But some things I love: IOSONOUNCANE / Injury Reserve / Black Country, New Road / Sufjan Stevens / Liturgy / Natalia Lafourcade / Radiohead / Charli XCX / Alex G / Shht

Movies: Lord of the Rings / Mulholland Drive / Uncut Gems / Sans Soleil / Sonatine

Books: I don't read enough anymore, but I used to read a lot of travel stories. Right now, I'm experiencing my own.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was 15, I went with a refugee ngo to the Balkans to learn about migration in Europe. We visited official and unofficial refugee (border)camps and we've joined citizen projects who wanted to help out people on the run. It was a very emotional trip, but there I really learned a lot about different cultures and the way the world works.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm really easy going and flexible and make people feel comfortable quickly. I love to try new things, flavors, cultural habits and so on, which could be really exciting for hosts. I also love to cook and make some exciting things for you. And I love talking about a lot of topics.
