About Me

CURRENT MISSION

On a road to nowhere

ABOUT ME

About me: I've been living in Gent/Ghent for over 10 years now. I own a nice house in this beautiful city and live here with my partner Jonas.

I grew up in Brugge and worked in Antwerp and Brussels for over 4 years, so I know most big cities in Belgium/Flanders quite well and can give you some insider information, if you would need some. I used to work at a non-profit health organisation, and at the University of Brussels (VUB) as a researcher. Currently I work as a project manager at the public library. Apart from that, I do some volunteering work.

I'm gay, vegetarian, outgoing, and basically a restless soul, always (well, most of the times) in for a new experience. I

PHILOSOPHY

Ok, I love this quote by MIchael Cunningham. It's a bit heavy, but that's what a good quote should be like, i guess:

"Maybe it's not, in the end, the virtues of others that so wrenches our hearts as it is the the sense of almost unbearable poignant recognition when we see them at their most base, in their sorrow and gluttony and foolishness. You need the virtues - some sort of virtues - but we don't care about Emma Bovary or Anna Karenina or Raskolnikov because they're good. We care about them because they're not admirable, because they're us, and because great writers have forgiven them for it." // from 'By nightfall'

Not sure how this reflects my personal philosophy. I guess it means I don't mind your peculiarities ;-).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can offer you a bed in a spare room. We also have a nice couch on which I've fallen asleep many times, I'm sure you can too ;-).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had relatively few couchsurfing experiences so far. I stayed with a guy once in Copenhagen and a couple in Washington DC. Both were great experiences...

Interests

I like to see myself as a generalist: I'm into a lot, but not obsessive about anything.

First things that spring to mind are: music (I play a bit of piano), travelling, journalism, movies, reading, running swimming, yoga, cooking, language classes, design, technology, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

Yes... Lot's of them.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Oh dear...
I could mention the time I travelled to Serbia on my own when I was only 19 years old. The war in Serbia had ended only a few years before and I participated in an international volunteer camp there. Met such an extraordinary group of people - quite an experience! I did a lot of travelling after that, but I think that trip will always stay with me as the most challenging one I have done so far...
