ABOUT ME

I am a native of Circleville, Ohio, where I grew up as the oldest of eight children in a world that would best be described as a Norman Rockwell painting. I am a 1983 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where I majored in mechanical engineering and played rugby. I retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel with approximately 2500 hours in the back seat of tactical fighter attack aircraft—specifically the F-4S Phantom II and the F-18D Hornet. I currently reside on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and am pursuing a second career as a writer. J

PHILOSOPHY

No person on his death bed ever wished that he had spent another day at work. I refuse to be a common man. God helps those who help themselves. You don't own your possessions - they own you.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have opened up my place on Hilton Head Island for future couch surfers, and hope to get the favor returned whenever I travel around this great country.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

After joining in December 2008, I have couch surfed on several occasions - specifically on a cross-country drive in the summer of 2009. I am totally sold on the concept! I LOVE it!

Interests

Weightlifting, hiking, riding my bicycle, Yoga, relaxing on the beach, reading the weekend USA Today, cooking, Sports Illustrated magazine, Outside magazine, Country magazine, watching football, Seinfeld, and Saturday Night Live, traveling America, Mom-n-Pop restaurants - especially those with a counter, I like getting off of the Interstate Highway system, I like going to see the leaves in the fall. I like any type of seafood, I rarely eat red meat but like to treat myself to the occasional prime rib or NY strip steak, starry nights, full moons, dogs, bears, raccoons, and porpoises, a good cup of tea, sleeping on a cold night with the windows open, Bailey's, Kahlua and cream, I like investing my money,

Music - any type of rock-n-roll. Classic, modern, alternative. but I don't do heavy metal.
Books - any book about the US Service academies, the American West, American Indians, The old cavalry wars, flying fighter jets

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Only one???
Flew in the F-4S and the F-18D.
Flew in Operation Desert Storm.
Drove the Alaska Highway to Fairbanks.
Drove Route 66 to Los Angeles.
Watched the space shuttle launch in October of 2007.
Hiked the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal's Himalaya Mountains.
Spent three summers in Montana.
Spent one summer in Idaho.
Have been to every Summer Olympics since 1984 (except for Sydney in 2000)
