About Me

I'm usually a calm, easygoing person who likes to talk, walk, look at passerbys, listen to some jazz or blues or rock or other, have something nice to eat and have a laugh (my sense of humour is quite slapstick, owing to the Monty Pyhtons).

I grew up in London and lived most my life in Grenoble, a city I don't like too much, except on a bicycle :-) Yes, I'm a bit crazy about cycling. Also, I play the saxophone, or at least I try to. Some pieces I manage well, others, hum hum... I'm getting there Charlie Parker!

I did an EVS (voluntary service) in Turkey in 2012 that sorta changed my life: when I came back to France I felt like I needed to find a meaningful job. So after a few years doing really random things in different coutries (and feeling a bit like Charles Bukowski in Factotum) I became an English teacher.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Mmm, by using this website: hosting and being hosted... fortunately!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A massive thank you to my beautiful hosts in Cannakale, Siirt and Thessaloniki.

Interests

I like cycling, jogging, working out now and again, good food (Mediterranean and foreign especially), routine or crazy DIY missions (interior decorating, bikes, saxophone repadding...). I'd be quite sad without some music (mainly jazz, rock, blues). And last but not least, I like taking pictures of people and places (check my blog: http://shakeabone.wordpress.com)

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: crime fiction by Ian Rankin, fiction by Paul Auster, Margaret Atwood, and the dude Charles Bukowski.
Series: The Bridge (Bron), The Wire, Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, Twin Peaks... Outnumbered
Music: Duke Ellington, Frank Black, Susan Tedeschi, Popa Chubby, Courtney Barnett, Hiromi Uehara, so many more...
I also like deranged comedy shows: Dave Chappelle, Ricky Gervais, Little Britain, The Mighty Boosh

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- Acting as the Duck in Peter and the Wolf and getting paid for it.
- Writing a reasearch dissertation on employee recognition at my former workplace... and basically signing my own career's death warrant.
- Teaching in a crap school in Marseille... for a whole year.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would happily teach people stuff about photography, economics and how to service or repair a bicycle... I also just like to listen to people sometimes.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can help with cooking (I make a mean cheesecake) or with other random stuff (DIY for instance). I like to share about travels, studies, experiences, volunteering and other crazy or non-crazy stuff.
