About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I am going to Asia at some point this year! Just don't know how yet.

ABOUT ME

Where to start? What to say?

After having changed quite a lot over the past few years, I look forward to everyday! Why? I don't have a clue what's going to happen but it's always exciting.

I love trying new things out. Since moving to Durham I've joined the rowing club where I absolutely love sculling. More recently I've just started dancing, which was quite scary and very tough. It reminded me of when I first started Thai boxing.

So, I like trying new things out: always, and I also love eating! In fact I'd say eating is more important, but, eating with friends is very important. I like to hang out with people most of the time, but don't mind being by myself. Sometimes I just need time by myself. So I might go walking or for a bike ride. That way I get to chill out and have time for myself which I think is really important.

When I moved to Durham I sought out a house share as I didn't want to live by myself, and because people are sociable it was a great way to meet people and talk, which is another favourite past time. However, I'm not as chatty as a Bangladeshi, at some point I will get tired! Sometimes when I come home from work, which is a ten minute walk, I just love to sit outside and talk, or, if it's sunny (which is rare here) talk and soak up the vitamin D! That's my medical excuse for apparently being vain.

I love outdoor pursuits especially mountaineering, mountain biking and scrambling. I've been practising Muay Thai (Thai boxing) for five years now and absolutely love it. I've not competed yet but want to, and definitely want to go out to Thailand and train.

Before I forget, I love cooking, life and the world. If I had to describe myself it'd be an eco-feminist. I do have a strong sense of social justice and environmentalism, although I don't do anything extreme, well at least not yet :).

I think that's everything I can think of at the moment.

PHILOSOPHY

Eco-feminist...you'll have to meet me, or message me to find out more!

Everything happens for a reason, and the greatest experience is life. I like to escape technology whenever I can and just enjoy the beauty of the world for what it is, and who we are.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I often attend meetings/ gatherings in Newcastle where the local CS scene is thriving! I often pop along to the occasional events in Durham. Generally I'm on for anything because you never who you'll meet or what you'll end up doing. I find this quite thrilling and it means that you're living in the present!

The best thing about participating in CS is that you get the inside scoop that no travel guide can ever tell you, you get to meet real people who are born-and-bred there.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed with a few people in Bangladesh and found the experience amazing. Also participated in the local CS meet ups in Dhaka courtesy of Jester.

Hosted two students whilst in Durham both of them were really great surfers.

Interests

Photography (when I have the time to play).

Outdoors stuff! I'd like to walk the Penine Way (England), Tour du Mont Blanc (France) and the Pyrenean Haute Route (Spain) in the near future and much, much, more...

I've also been practicising Thai boxing for the past 4 years and really enjoy it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Films: I love world cinema, don't really watch much 'mainstream' stuff, I find it to predictable.

Music: Above and Beyond, Matt Darey (basically Trance, deep house, EDM, lounge), chillout (Buddha bar), jazz, South American music (Ceu, Bebel Gilberto), the buzzout room (it's a radio station) ... lots more.

Books: Hisham Matar, Sarah Hall, Jack London, Hemingway, some historical books (which concentrate on social justice like: Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, and ancient history), anything to do with environmentalism and geo-archaeology. Oh and Schumacher: Small is Beautiful (one of the most inspiring environmental/ sustainability books I have ever read, which I only found out about via my MSc in Climate Change at the University of East Anglia.)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

An Asian sunrise from 30,000 ft whilst flying past the Himalayas has to be one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to grow fruit and vegetables or we can sit down and talk, which I love doing: Whether it's listening or talking back.
