I consider myself a "renaissance woman": I am interested in many things.

I have always loved to read and I also write a lot. I have several blogs. Lately I am also really into photography.

I am a citizen of the world: I have two nationalities (Finnish & Canadian) and I have lived in 11 different countries and have studied 14 languages. I feel at home anywhere: where ever I lay my proverbial hat, that's my home.

I am married to the love of my life. We have great fun together. We are always planning where to travel next...

PHILOSOPHY

I once wrote a personal mission statement and I was able to summarize my philosophy of life in one word: LOVE. This should be understood in the widest possible sense, meaning that I love life, our planet, all living things and I love to do things and to discover things.

If I add a couple more words, I'd say: beauty, progress. I see beauty in everything. I also believe in making the world a better place and that it starts with improving ourselves.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My husband and I travel a lot and would love to crash on someone's couch - both to save money and, even more importantly, to meet great new people!

We also love to host people. So far we have mostly hosted friends and family, but would love to meet new people by hosting them.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We hosted one person in our home a while back and it was a truly wonderful experience!! I highly recommend it. We also attended a CouchSurfing meeting in Helsinki, Finland and really had a great time - the atmosphere was really open, informal and friendly. It's a great way to meet new people.

I am very passionate about life and love lots of things, among them: music, dancing, swimming, yoga, movies, going to the gym, travel, writing, reading, photograpy, fashion, knitting, meeting new people, wine, cooking, eating, shopping, talking to people into the wee hours of the night over a glass of wine, learning new things, trying new things, loving life, people & animals...

Music, Movies, and Books

This is difficult because there are too many to list!!

I love all kinds of music from classical to heavy metal, to rock, pop and jazz. I like all *good* music. My all-time fave bands/artists are: Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, the Doors, Led Zeppelin, Janet Joplin, Madonna.

Movies...well, again, there's too many to name. I love Breakfast at Tiffany's, Fight Club, I love romantic comedies and I usually cry.

Books....hmmm....I own thousands. I also have a Kindle that I use heavily. I read lots of non-fiction on many topics. E.g. I read a lot of stuff on business, personal finance, nutrition, fashion, decorating, travel. I also love fiction. I love e.g. Jane Austen and Nick Hornby. There must be hundreds of authors I love so way too many to list....

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Taking a bath with an elephant at a spice farm in Goa, India. Riding a quattro in the Sahara desert near Hurghada, Egypt. Snorkling in the Red Sea in Hurghada, Egypt. Houseboating in Alappey, Kerala, India.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know many languages and can teach those. Or I can tell people how languages "work" (I'm a linguist). I know a lot about fashion and style. I knit and can teach you to knit! I am a fairly good cook and I am interested in learning how to cook different cuisines. I can tell stories about my many travels all over the world.
