ABOUT ME
I like adventure. Of any sort. Whether just packing a bag and leaving for a trip on my own, or coming up with crazy plans in the middle of the night and just make them happen, surprises and unforeseen circumstances thrive me. To be in a new place every so often is my habitat. To meet new people my goal. Have change happen around me, or find it myself.
At the same time I'm quite the fan of my own city. Not for its glorious architecture; Brussels can be both very pretty and hideously ugly. Not for its tourist attractions either. After all, what's a little pissing dude and nine steel balls on sticks? I love Brussels for its diversity. You can walk a couple of blocks and feel in an entirely different world. From the rue Brabant(little mekka) through the north station to the Brussels Manhattan business district for instance. Or in the Marolles from the cosy flea market a couple streets down to where poverty rules or a few blocks up where the Hilton stands.
However connected I feel to the entire world and its people, I'll always be Belgian from Brussels. I love the beer, like to brew it. And as our cuisine goes, my appetite is indeed for French quality and German quantity, as the Belgian kitchen is sometimes described. I find it self-evident that people speak two or three languages, and find patience and respect true virtues.
So feel free to drop by. Have a chat, a coffee or a beer with me. I'll host you if I can, but please do write a personalized request. Copy-paste requests don't get to me. Chances are slim that I'd make time to host you if you can't even take the time to read my profile and determine whether or not you'd like to surf here and write down why.
PHILOSOPHY
A day nothing done is a day not enjoyed. At least get out there, see what the world has to offer you today. A surprise is always around the corner.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Studying, working, volunteering, travelling,... doesn't always leave too much time to host. Or surf, for that matter. However, I like to make time for my couchsurfers.
When I find the time I love to host people in the flat, I'd love to make time to get to know you and make you feel at home. I enjoy sharing and learning from each other.
I'd rather have you surfing when I can really take the time to show you around, get some time to spend with you as a surfer. To me, CS is at least as much about meeting interesting people from all over the world as it is about finding shelter for the night.
I enrolled in CS on my first hitchhiking trip to Stockholm in 2009. Since, I have hosted numerous people over the years and surfed quite some couches around Europe. All of them were memorable, from the shared couch in a student dorm in Uppsala to the hard floor of a tiny apartment in Prague. What I'll remember most though, are all the wonderful people I've met. In the end, that's what it's all about, right?
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We hitchhiked to Sweden and back again (in 2 days from Brussels to Stockholm!) and in Uppsala we went to our first CS event: a CS meeting. The atmosphere was friendly, people were outgoing and interesting and we just had a great time. I guess hospitality and being openminded and outgoing is a trademark of CSers. A very positive first experience, which motivated me to be hosting and surfing more. So far, this presumption has only been further confirmed.
I recently hosted people from the US, Ireland, Lithuania, Canada, Spain, France, Italy, Australia, Brazil, and all over the world... I enjoyed sharing with them my passion for the odd ugliness of the city of Brussels. I loved listening to their travel stories and telling them mine. I enjoyed the friendly company of every single one of them, in one way or another.
