ABOUT ME

EULA for Dealings with Andrew Gardner

By reading this profile for User Andrew Gardner (Hereafter referred to as "Andy"), you (Hereafter referred to as... "you") tacitly agree to the following license dictating the terms of the friendship.

I - You agree that Andy is at the very least "pretty cool," though a higher degree of coolness is preferred.

II - You are totally cool with Andy's peculiarities, including, but not limited to, his diet (meat free), sleeping patterns (pretty normal actually), initial shyness, and occasional tendency to get lost in thought and/or climb things (notably trees).

III - You agree to engage in at least one (1) discussion with Andy on the topic(s) of: i) you, your life and your culture; ii) why things are the way they are; iii) science in culture; iv) ethics; v) cartoon movies; or vi) another topic that is agreed upon by both parties.

This agreement can be terminated at any time by Andy, and replaced with one that's more fun and/or awkwardly phrased in its linguistic patterns (Exhibit A).

PHILOSOPHY

When I die, I will leave the world in a state where there is suffering, death, and other general ills; and I have to be okay with this.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

City puns:

Montreal - That cinnamon tree always grows faster than the other trees.

London - Your shoelaces are a little undone.
Glasgow - Here's my plastic recycling bin, but where does the glass go?
Edinburgh - Those who advertised goods inside pressure-sensing devices can say that they have marketed in barometers.

Rotterdam - I had a Rotterdam good time there.
Hamburg - Robin Hood was nothing but a Nottingham burglar.
Aalborg - Aalborg and no play makes everybody a borg.
Kristiansand - The followers of the two most popular religions are Cristians and Muslims, of course.
Oslo - Wages in Oz are very low. Your wage may be low, but it's not Oz low.
Stockholm - It's a bad idea to stalk homeless people; they are people too.
Copenhagen - What's that, old lady? You're not well, and you're willing to try experimental cures? Okay, I'll tell the doctor there's a sick open hag in the waiting room.
Berlin - There was a 10% increase between September and October linen sales.
Prague - I play Oprah-peekaboo with my child by turning off the TV and saying, "where did Oprah go?" She hates it.
Vienna - My foe is smart. I have a savvy enemy.
Venice - TBD
Florence - Rents were low this month. This was a month of low rents.
Rome - I shall measure the resistance of this electronic circuit, using the standard units. Ah, it is four ohms.
Bern - Those who have a job earn money.
Lyon - She hummed so sadly on her favourite chair.
Paris - I have so many shoes, and I can't decide which pair is my favourite.
Barcelona - Oh, no! Both of the bars were robbed last night. Jimmy, you were on shift. Did you leave the bars alone again?
Mallorca - TBD

Music, Movies, and Books

Groundhog Day is probably my favourite movie. I like books and movies about time-travel. I'm also into cartoons and comedies. Iron Giant always gets me.

I read a lot of science stuff. Books I've enjoyed: Time-Traveller's Wife, Ishmael, Third Chimpanzee, most anything Vonnegut, most anything Eggers.

I listen to classical music (Dvorak's mah fave), and rock bands, like Weezer and the Pixies. Can't get enough Pet-Sounds-era Beach Boys.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I took a 3-month trip to Europe, getting there and back without flying. Spent 10 days each way as a passenger on a cargo freighter.

I've been on two 10-day meditation retreats that have changed my life. Vows of silence were taken, fasting occurred - lots of good stuff.

Teach, Learn, Share

Particle Physics! Thermodynamics! History and Philosophy of Science! Evolution! Climate and Climate Change! Ethics! Vegetarian Cooking! and and and... Tree Climbing! and maybe a little bit of Buddhist philosophy.

If you wanna talk about these things, I love discussing them, and can probably answer some rudimentary to advanced questions.

Do you know things about any of the above categories? I have many questions too!
