About Me

I am an adventuress and I seek to find the lonely corners of this vast round planet.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Many people have opened their homes to me when I've travelled and I'd like to extend the hospitality. Homes are better to stay in than hotels and despite my preference for solitude and my distrust of machines, there is something primal about couch surfing: think ancient nomads sharing fire.

Interests

Canoe racing, mountain climbing, long distance expeditions, cliff jumping, anything that involves adrenaline, lonely mountain summits, devouring books, getting lost, eating real actual food like plants and animals, primitive lifestyles, woodworking, and most importantly: LAUGHTER

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: not country
Movies: Death Proof, Inception, The Matrix (I have a hard time sitting still for movies but some are ok), Zombie Land, Fight Club
Books: too many to mention. Ok, so a few would be The Basic Eight, Fight Club (yes it was a book before it was a movie), Dandelion Wine, Catcher in the Rye, 1984, anything by Hugh Howey whom I just discovered, The Jungle, and that book where Farley Mowat gets a job in the arctic remote wilderness to study wolves and ends up eating the mice just like the wolves (I want that job)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just one? Appalachian Trail and Pacific Crest Trail thru-hiker, Empire State marathon runner, completed a pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago. Adirondack 46er, Northville-Placid Trail winter expedition, jumped from an airplane

And once I rehabilitated a pigeon who showed up at my doorstep with a broken wing

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to start a fire without matches or a lighter.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories of treachery in the wilderness, LAUGHTER, thoughtful conversation

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Spain
