About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To strike the perfect balance between security and spontaneous adventure.

ABOUT ME

FEmale. 27. Happy. Small-town girl who loves the city. Equally comfy in heels or rubber boots. I'm a day-dreamer with a mind that I'm working on learning how to quiet (at least sometimes). I spend hours in book stores trying to pick something out. I love the grocery store and food markets (can also spend hours trying to pick something out). I am very close with my big, loud extended family. I loved my university studies and also my previous jobs unrelated to my studies.

Just returned from some travels in India, Thailand and Cambodia and am just bubbling with the energy and excitement generated by these travels (especially India!).

I am just SO amazed by the stories of all the people I meet - be it while traveling overseas, going to work, riding the bus or simply sitting in the park. These stories make me think, make me want to travel more, inspire me and sometimes just make me laugh so damn hard!

And there is nothing better than laughing loudly and a lot.

PHILOSOPHY

My dad once told me not to worry about you're doing in life, just never stagnate.
It is one of those things that has always stuck with me and if I ever get to the point where I feel I am beginning to stagnate, I know it's time for a change. The change may be drastic, like picking up and moving cities/countries/continents or it may be simple like quitting talking about taking a photography course and actually starting one.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Other than unofficial couchsurfing and hosting experiences, I try to be helpful when people contact me looking for information, I have attending some meetups and I am just finally able to host! I had my first surfers when I was out of town unfortunately, but it was nontheless a great experience and even though I didn't meet my guests in person, I was still able to learn from them!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Umm - beautiful bungalow in the midst of a tiger reserve in Tamil Nadu India - need I say more???
- a couch at my friend Dave's place halfway up the mountain at whistler - fresh tracks daily = amazing.
- a room at Trace and her 5 year old son Jack's - both legends who took me in like family and MADE my stay in Western Australia [she even gave me a car to use while staying there!].
- the mattress in the back of a surf shop in Qld - free surf tips from my kind host Shane
- a glorious air mattress in the living room of my friend Jimmy's and then a comfy couch in Scot and Rach's living room during the Vancouver 2010 winter Olympics.

Thus couchsurfing experience = EXTREMELY POSITIVE. some of the most kindness and generosity I have experienced in my lifetime has been from relative strangers during my travels.
A-MA-ZING.

side note: some of the most interesting, warm, and striking people I met during my travels turned out to be Couchsurfers. Time and time again I seemed to meet them and time and time again, it was confirmed that we are a good bunch!

Interests

I love food, languages, and travel. Coffee, especially the first one of my day, makes me extremely happy. As do dogs, children and people-watching (in the park, on the street wherever).
I like sports - when the timing and weather is right I enjoy the following:
- snowboarding, surfing, ice hockey, flag football
I am attempting to take photographs a little more seriously these days (but am by no means a photographer).
I love reading. I write often, but mainly just for myself in a journal.

I like second-hand shopping (it may actually be a minor addiction) and when I eventually have the time and space for it, I would like to find and refinish old furniture.

Music, Movies, and Books

My taste in all three of these is varied and I love when people make suggestions they think I may enjoy.

I just read the book One Day and loved it. The Summer of Naked Swim Parties had me laughing and crying.
I can't stop listening to Beirut lately.
I love sports movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Witnessed a miracle.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love languages so I would love to be able to share the knowledge I have of English (and French) and would be happy to learn as much of any other language I could.
I would like to learn about different types of meditation.
I also love food, so any recipes/cooking lessons would be welcomed!
I make a mean French toast - I could teach you this.
