About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Eager to explore all the great big and little worlds around me.

ABOUT ME

After spending my childhood in the wilds of Interstate 84, I became something of an East Coast nomad, eventually slipping off the continent for a brief, but torrid love affair with Sweden. I was lured back by a pack of dog-owners with Boston accents, though I soon escaped their wiggly ways and returned to Wesleyan University. There I scored a degree in time travel and American Government and then found myself in Providence...Rhode Island...where I made all sorts of radio noises. I was really inspired by a local arts organization (AS220) and my brain exploded with dreams about new urban planning, open access to technology, and arts 2.0. In the autumn of 09, I moved to DC to work with the web team of a certain three-letter radio news corp. A desire to participate, rather than observe, led me to my current situation: by day I'm an advocate for federal, state, and local open government and data, and by night I nerd out about street art and the information commons.

I also have a thing for parade crashing.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in the respect, creation, celebration, sharing, and exploration of public commons.

Be it an idea, sidewalk, picnic table, or body of water, I believe that we have an imperative as individuals to make pro-active, responsible decisions to protect and care for any space we share as a society.

Translation: tune in, commune, create, protect.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

While living in Providence, Couchsurfers were my friends, family, and co-conspirators. My mind and heart have both been rocked by the compassion and fierce curiosity of the folks I've met from this community, and although I don't always have a couch to lend, I look forward to contributing to and collaborating with adventurers from this space for years to come, either over coffee, tea, through tours, tourism, or any other scheming available.

Interests

Hands. Sounds and storytelling. The contents of pockets and refrigerators. Exploration and inquisition. Tree identification. DIY crafting. Language(s). Old time radio, radio plays, and public broadcast. How cool robots are. Copyleft and Creative Commons. Public health and education.

Reading about fruit flies, brain imaging, epic quests, and other things. Sharing live music. Charcoal and mixed media creations. Politics, policy, photography, and botony. Medieval weaponry. Audio/visual production. Attending random cultural events. Crosswords and coffee.

Garlic, early mornings, and the moon.

Playing. Dancing with enthusiasm. Chili peppers, jump blues, and mass transit. Crashing parades.

The element of surprise.
