Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have hosted friends and travelers before: i have been told by both types that I tend to be a mother hen! Not terribly over the top but I like looking after people. If I can, I will cook nice meals, ideally from my home country so I can share my culture. I have been surfed too before because it was the only I could afford attending a huge conference and i will definitely do so again as and when possible.
Interests
Public debates and issues that get us out of our comfort zone and force us to think outside of our own shoes. I'm a PhD student at the moment...so most of my time goes to study and research! But when I was home (i come from a tropical island! yay!) spare time would be forest treks, the beach, gardening, coast drives, coffee times with my 2 mentors and their cat!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Seeing my then 2 year old nephew last year walk to a Trochetia plant in our garden, pluck a flower (which happens to be an endemic to Mauritius) and stick it all by himself in his little suit's lapel. Being a conservation biologist, and no matter how random and innocent his act was, it made me proud and hopeful.
Working in the conservation field, I had to deal with a lot of private land owners. Hearing so many of them question the need to keep green spaces over concrete landscapes still leaves me dumbstruck...knowing many of them were born and raised on the island in the middle of its beauty and are educated to postgrad level. That inability to relate to nature is hard for me to conceive.
We used to have a black female cat when I was finishing high school...her motherly nature towards her kitten was way more than what we've ever seen in humans...we being my mother and myself. She would always let her kitten feed first whenever we gave them both milk or food; at the tiniest drop of rain she would run around the house and yard, find him, grab him by the back of the neck bring him inside...they sadly died when a neighbour used rat poison in his yard.
