About Me
CURRENT MISSION
to to make work and play the same thing
ABOUT ME
raised in rural ontario and educated in a catholic high school i needed to flee the scene, taking a long-anticipated, undetermined length of time in europe with my good friends matt & liz. this combined with a previous trip to nicaragua crystallized my desire to learn to live in ways not lived here in canada. soon afterward i fell into going to college, which turned out to be the benefactor of my half year in japan, this trip in turn bolstering my decision to study asian culture at ubc. if someone would pay me to learn languages, i'd be eating ambrosia; if someone were to fund photojournalistic endeavours that found me finding myself frequently nfa, i'd be in my glory; throw in some jam sessions now and then, hurl me into an armchair in a library, produce a pot of fresh tea on the sidetable, and i'm a happy creature.
PHILOSOPHY
it harm none, do what thou wilt, methinks.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
i participate by whooping ecstatically at the thought of someone organizing laid back travelers into a low-maintenaince, high-opportunity community entirely beneficial for host and guest alike.
i urge you to consider our couch, your couch, their couch.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
well, it wasn't officially with this organization, but i lived for a few months on the couch of 2 Canadian anarchists while i worked promoting credit cards and pet insurance in Bristol, England. the irony of my work-home discrepancy really hit me when i took my turn dumpster-diving the local organics warehouse right after work, still wearing my suit.
Interests
reading (my bookshelf is shamefully expansive), longboarding, playing things that make groovy sounds, studying language, manipulating momentum, pondering, climbing trees, taking photos, origami, travel

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
i caused my brother to think i was usurping his seat when i was really watching a tornado tear up the nearby subdivision, including our neighbour's barn. right after that, while my dad and his buddy went to the neighbours' to rescue the horses, we got on the shed to see how far over we could lean in the absurd winds. truth be told, shingles will indeed stick into a wooden shed in tornado winds.
Teach, Learn, Share
i play the bagpipes and didgeridoo (yes, including circular breathing); i'm a black belt in kempo karate; i plant trees in the mountains for a living; i'm an origami nerd; i frequently hit the slopes on my longboard or snowboard (season permitting!)... i suppose none of these are particularly rare or astonishing, but if you're into any of these things, i'd love to know some more! and if you're not, i'll bet you're into something equally compelling - i'd love for you to spread the goodness!
