Books? Anything written by Tolkien (I like the LotR/Hobbit movies but I like his books way more). Fahrenheit 451 was an eye-opener for me. Kafka is great (I would recommend Metamorphosis if you haven't read it yet). There is so much yet to read :)

If you have a free day in California, consider kayaking at Elkhorn Slough National Reserve. It's been beautiful experience.

In case you find yourself in Eastern Bohemia (Czech Republic), you could visit Charles Crown Castle in Chlumec nad Cidlinou and get to know something about one of the greatest dynasties in its history (The Kinsky Dynasty).
