CURRENT MISSION
to fall in love with life and drink it from a fountain that is pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain
ABOUT ME
[BTW, if it says our last login was "San Diego," that has something to do with the connection at Sonia's office. We wish we were in Cali! But, alas, we're probably not.]
We are two IT/foodie geeks who've been planning our first big RTW trip for several years now. We've lived in the Washington, DC, area for almost two decades and it's time for some MAJOR change! As a warm-up, in 2007 Sonia quit her job and traveled through Central America for ~10 weeks. And Mark went to Burning Man (talk about Off The Grid!). We both attended The Burn '08. The plan is to rent out our house so we can travel through SE Asia and India for at least nine months, maybe more...

PHILOSOPHY
Sonia: Life is short... eat dessert first!
Mark: Enjoy life- it's short! Enjoy your body, especially if everything's still working. Discover and realize your potential, whatever it may be. Contribute to the overall happiness quotient in the world.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We've hosted and surfed a few times. We also try to stay active in the groups and local meet-ups. And while traveling through Central America, Sonia found some great travel companions through this site!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
So far, our hosting and surfing experiences have been great. Growing up, Sonia's family always had exchange students in the house while she was growing up... so, very early on she learned the value of getting a ground-level view of local culture.
Interests
Sonia: travel (duh!), scuba, food & wine, other pleasures of the flesh, music, belly dancing, warping people's fragile little minds
Mark: Music (Rock, Jazz, Lounge, Trance, World, Renaissance, and classical), playing guitar (rock), fine dining, wine, gourmet cooking, SCUBA diving, sailing, Porsche motorsports, more... (ask me!)

Music, Movies, and Books
Mark's got 20 guitars and plays out with his band as often as possible: www.dekadesband.com
We've both been heavily influenced by reading "The Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan about how f***ed up our American food system is.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Sonia: up-close and personal viewing of an active volcano's dome collapse -- totally sci-fi! (and diving the next day with ash particles in the water was pretty kick-ass too)
Mark: sitting with my girlfriend on our clifftop terrace on the North corner of Santorini watching the sun set over the Aegean sea as the sails of a windmill behind us turned, a taverna played the music of Vangelis, and we delighted in Greek bread and wine.
Teach, Learn, Share
Mark: I'm knowledgeable about music/guitar, cooking, computers, and a few other juicy subjects.
