Music: I like music but I just don't know any of the name or bands but mostly classic rock and electronic are on my Pandora channels.
Books: A wizard of Earthsea, Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, Red Dwarf books, The Dictionary, Kevin Smith's My boring ass life.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Teach, Learn, Share
http://wikitravel.org is a great starting point.
Visa's check them out before you buy your ticket. I was in Indonesia going to Vietnam and the night before my friends and I were flying it clicked that Vietnam does not have "Visa on arrival". A few calls to the U.S. Embassy sorted it out though.
With Google hangouts as long as you have Wifi (or a good data plan) you can call back to the states for free.
When looking for some place to eat go where the most people are, the locals know whats good for a good price.
Travelers sickness sucks! Boil it, cook it, peel it, or forget it. http://wikitravel.org/en/Travellers%27_diarrhea
Try to learn some of the local lingo (hello, please, thank you ect.) it goes a long way.
keep the address or the cross streets of where you are staying in your wallet, if you get lost you can ask for directions more easily or just jump in a taxi and point to it.
Stay at Hostels you will meet so many people. Lot of Hostels will do group events as well.
If your looking for something to do check out a travel agency for locations but do not book with them. Just go there yourself, sometimes cheaper and your not constrained by there scheduled.
Try your best to keep your cool, traveling can be stressful at times.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm an open book, you got questions I got answers.
One big thing is first impressions. People see me and first thing they see is "That's a big dude". I'm 6'1" 285 and I have a resting angry face (when I'm off in la la land focusing on something people thing I'm mad) I'm not that's just my face :(
One time when I was in Lao at the Aussi bar in Vang Vieng (great place) I meet an older Australian couple (it was a group dinner thing they were next to me) we just hit it off, had a few beers swapped stories had a great time and that happened for 3 days in a row. At the end of it they said something along the lines of "if I passed you on the street I may worry a little but now that I know you, you got a place to stay if you ever come to Australia." I'm paraphrasing a little there but that was the end point.
