About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Fatherhood has put travelling on #2 for now. People who like kids are still very welcome though :)

ABOUT ME

Psychology is the art of translating our interpretation of the language of the soul. Learning to what extent we are capable of controlling it. Figuring out why you look at things the way that you do. It's essential knowledge to understand the way in which you interpret your emotions. Throughout my life, I like to think I've come a long way into figuring out mine.

I'm a melancholic optimist. I demand on a certain depth of value in everything that my life consists of; fascinated by the impossibility of perfection and repelling things that come too easy. I'm confident and proud of the level of awareness in which I live my life and thrive upon finding the people in millions with whom I share this understanding. The gathered masses of modern society represent an isolation from bigger things, a measure of the ordinary by which I tend to feel entrapped. Cut off from the ideal and distant. This aversion from simplicity leads to an insisting desire of individuality, expressing itself by means of creativity and travel. I want a miracle to happen and almost insist on its beauty. I like to believe I've lived to witness several. I feel the pain that comes with living to be just as special as its delight and always need the corresponding emotions to be understood. Both by myself and by the people I love.

This individualism reflects itself in everything; my work, my music, my appearance, my need to travel and even my lovelife. Of course, living life with demands as high as mine always comes with the risk of disappointment. And I often have been. Nonetheless, I've grown to believe in the result of persistence. I refuse to settle for shooting at what I know I can hit.

Shoot for the moon.
And you might come even further than what you thought you were capable of.

PHILOSOPHY

I love seeing how even a single person can represent and demonstrate his or her own individual cultural bubble, and appeal to every other culture intrigued by it. Thereby questioning each other's integrity and helping both grow, adapt and evolve into greater states of being. Be it through arts, social behaviour or even through internet. Or animals in survival; victims of a certain species physically adaptig themselves in defense of other predator species, which in turn counter each other's evolution. All the way through history, life has been competing against itself, causing it to evolve into what it is now.

By continually exposing myself to new cultures, people, environments and circumstances, I hope to gain an unbiased, objective outlook on life as a whole and my role therein.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Now that I've settled down a bit, I'll be hosting more than I surf. I'll settle the score once the kid(s) is/are old enough ;)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Only surfed a few couches through the couchsurfing website, but thoroughly enjoyed those. But there's plenty to come, I'm sure.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music, to me, is an artist's expression of his or their interpretation of reality. A different kind of communication, in which words relatively lose their importance. Not a single word would need be spoken, for a song to elicit certain emotions. In fact, the lack of words can even increase this effect. Classical music would be a perfect example for this - or a band like Explosions in the Sky. Music speaks without words. We somehow relate to it.

Music that really appeals to me varies as much as my emotions do. I mostly listen to modern music but have a very keen interest in music from past generations; its roots. I've currently found myself being most struck by music from bands such as Explosions in the Sky, RX Bandits, dredg, A Perfect Circle, Thrice, Sage Francis, Modest Mouse, Dearly Departed, Fleet Foxes, Clann Zú... It goes so much further into punk, ska, reggae, jazz, funk, drum 'n bass... Have a look at my Lastfm profile to see what I'm talking about: http://www.last.fm/user/qbahamutp

These are merely some names that crossed my path along the way. And that path is still going strong, so any contributions are very, very welcome.
