About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to do something new each and every single day.

ABOUT ME

i'm a psychotherapist at a middle school by day, and a graduate student at a social activist private school two nights a week. the other nights a week you can generally find me cooking, eating, going to shows (live music, generally of the rock and roll/eclectic/noise/indie variety), going to bars, or hanging out with friends. i volunteer as the sponsorship coordinator for mission creek music and arts festival, a 10-day long event celebrating local music and arts. i'm also on the board of directors for the nonprofit Independent Arts and Media, a DIY-focused group that provides fiscal sponsorship for projects forwarding the culture of democracy. i am an avid bike rider, sometimes riding upwards of 15 miles per day, and love to take new routes around town. i'm always trying new things and discovering the hidden surprises (including potholes) in san francisco. i am also a foodie and while i have my favorite restaurants i'm always looking for another sushi place to try. i tend to have guests stay at my place at least once per month, and they're always rewarded with excellent brunches either cooked by me or by one of the amazing local restaurants, and a laundry list of great shows, fun clubs, art openings, free alcohol or events, or just a rented movie indoors.

PHILOSOPHY

"A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything." - Nietzche

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

i'm here as a way to start preparing for my seven-week tour of france and italy in the summer of '07.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

i stay on my brother's couch whenever i go to visit him in los angeles. his roommate has a very large stinky dog. we have become fast friends, because, well, the good thing about stinky dogs is you can always blame whatever weird smells on him! i also couch surf pretty much wherever i go outside of the city-- i've done it in los angeles, chicago, new york city--but i don't know anyone living in paris or italy!

Interests

bikes, records (yes, vinyl), live music, food, wine, free stuff, psychology, deconstructionism, walking, comfy chairs, breakfast in bed, cultural stuff that isn't a giant overcompensation for a quickly deteriorating social structure, running, picnicking, cemeteries (very peaceful and serene), taking new roads, small family-owned specialty stores.

Music, Movies, and Books

music: starz, walter egan, comets on fire, the slits, bruce springsteen, explosions in the sky, p.o.s., the extraordinaires, captain ahab, nina simone, the monks, uh... the list goes on. for movies, i liked scanner darkly, new york doll, sex pistols: filth and the fury, the eye, star wars IV: a new hope. books would be master and margarita, the monk, the spirit catches you and you fall down, and the unsayable.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

on my 24th birthday i climbed a sacred mountain in Tibet as part of the new year celebration, at 3am. after coming down, i was out of breath and decidedly euphoric. then, as per tradition, i proceeded to gorge myself on dumplings and beer at about 10 separate houses in the village. oog.

Teach, Learn, Share

i am trained to be a very good listener. i can also show you a thing or two about cooking, or, i can simply enjoy your skillz as they are. i can also share some good music with you if you like that sort of thing.
