About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To secure a job I love.

ABOUT ME

UPDATE:
The reason I am not able to host is that I have some roommates who are not fully comfortable with the notion of Couchsurfing.

Send me a message if you're interested in meeting up for a drink while in Edmonton.

Now on to the actual about me part:
------

Words, they are my ally and nemesis. I use them to escape to far off places (albeit mostly ones I create when I can't travel this world). Yet I always get stumped on these profile things. So here are the interesting things I can think about me at this point in time.

After living as an acoustical engineer for about 7 years, in 2008 I decided to follow my other childhood career dream... to become a teacher.

Since graduating as a secondary school teacher majoring in science, minoring in math, I have taught various things:
First job was teaching a Lego Robotics course I developed - been doing that every July for 4 years.
Next was a semester teaching Technical Math at NAIT
Followed by substitute teaching for Elk Island Public Schools
And recently I accepted a job to teach a term of upgrading math and science at Medicine Hat College Brooks Campus.

I live with 3 housemates, and currently don't have space to host, however am up for showing people around town or meeting for a drink.

I enjoy the arts as well as the sciences. I have been involved in the Edmonton Fringe Theatre Festival for over half my life, including writing, producing, and acting in a play at the Winnipeg & Edmonton Fringes in 2007 (show was '5 of a Kind'), and writing, producing, and directing a play at the Edmonton Fringe in 2012 (show was 'The Question').

Since it's obvious from the groups I've joined, I'm gay and a nudist. However, I do not impose these on others. For example, I'm clothed when people are visiting, and respect the boundaries of the places I couchsurf.

I have been away from Couchsurfing.org for a while, and in the process of updating parts of my profile, which will likely include a wider range of groups.

PHILOSOPHY

Live life as it comes.

There is a reason everything happens, however we may never know that reason.

Fate guides us down the road, but leaves us to decide what road to take at the intersections of life. (Which can sometimes be a total drag.)

There are many quotes I appreciate and can reflect my philosophy, that I post on: http://quafaie.tumblr.com/

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate by telling everyone that I think would enjoy this site about it - either those travelling or those that have the ability to host.

I of course offer my couch to those wayward wanderers when I can.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hmmm, I seem to be building up a list now, so I'll save the stories for another time, and just briefly list my CS only experiences (there are more times when friends of friends have hosted me - plus through the Fringe):

January 2006 : Heard about this marvelous site from Bryak at a class to teach ESL.

August 2006 : Hosted Adam Krawesky, my first CSer. He only stayed one night.

September 2006 : Hosted Fraser MacLean as well as Stephen Taylor from the band Trike (www.trikeaband.com) for about 3 nights as they passed through Calgary.

September 2006 : During some of the problems with the site, a message mysteriously was sent to from my account to Benjamin Maze, and we then met up and became good friends.

November 2006 : I hosted Michi Groenewoud for a week as she looked for a place to stay longer at the end of a work visa from Germany.

Sometime late 2006, or early 2007 I met GmU and Jenelle Matson through a Calgary CS group meeting.

September 2007 : DODES hosted me off and on for about a week while I explored the maritime provinces. DODES was also hosting Alisha Welsh while I was there, and I also met Jarrett Martell through DODES.

January 2008 : Hosted Sam Go for a couple nights.

May 2008 : My month of a lot of CSing:
Hosted: Randy McIntyre one night.
Hosted: Cain Cooper & Josh for one night as they passed through Calgary.
Surfed: 3 nights with Marine et Eric Breton in Montreal, followed by 2 nights with Anuj Khosla

Since 2008, I really only met up with Stephany to show her around Edmonton (in 2010).

My travels have generally been to family or friends, or the occasional last minute type plan where a hostel was the resulting place of rest.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Travelling!!! And doing some spontaneous travel changes!

Spending an entire flight from London, UK, to Calgary, Canada, where out the right window the sky was that dark royal blue right after a sunset, and out the left window was a beautiful sunset. The flight was about 9 hours long, and this 'sunset' lasted for at least 8 hours!

Teach, Learn, Share

As I once mentioned to a random group of young teens (while I was still an engineer):
"Follow your desires and see where they take you. I am in the middle of a career change, which at my age shows that if you take a wrong turn, learn from it and find your next dream and follow it with more enthusiasm."

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Brazil

Countries I’ve Lived In
