About Me
In August 2018 a collegue, who had recently returned from his own working holiday in Oz, told me that NZ had raised their age limit to 35. I was a month shy of that.
I had dreamed of a working holiday Down Under (either Oz or NZ) in my 20's. Tried to make it happen, but to no avail. Never really gave up on it, though. So, fast forward 10 yrs and picture me, dumbfounded, staring at my collegue. He saw a lot of emotions on my face, ranging from shock to quietly rekindled hope. And I think he also saw the gears turning in my head, 'cause he added: "If you're the spontaneous sort, you still got time."
Actually, never been of the spontaneous sort. But. Within a year, I had quit my job of 4 yrs, given up my flat of 12 yrs, and talked my Dad into long term cat sitting. And I was on a plane to Singapore, then heading to Christchurch.
So, spent a little time on the South Island, came to Wellington in September, found a job, but now it's time to move on, to explore the rest of the North Island. Until I run out of money. Again, ;P
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I created my profile back in 2007 and just dived in!
For me it wasn't just about helping someone out by letting them crash at my couch, although I was more than happy to do that. It was, and still is, about cultural exchange. I've always felt there's more to the world than just Finland, and hosting travelers was one way to experience it. I didn't have many opportunities to be the surfer myself, but nevertheless, I felt couchsurfing was the way to go.
Then, life happened.
Last time I was active in couchsurfing was more than 10 yrs ago. So, why return now? To save money? Yes. Absolutely. To gain experiences as the surfer? Oh, yes, yes, yes! Out of pure curiosity? Ding, ding, ding! So, let's be curious together! :)
