Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I can be a "host mommy" for the lucky people who make it to my palace.
The couchsurfing summer'07 season was never-to-be-forgotten one. I met really good people and I hope to stay friends with them.
Anthon, Bloke, Dan, Nico, Sarah, David, Bec and Jem kicked in my life, changed it and took away each one a small, but alive part of my heart. Good times together, memoirs to share! Thanks
Some funny stories that happened to me:
Here in Russia we've got kind of a tradition to go to russian "banya"- something like a sauna. First you go to a room where the air is heated up to 80-120 degrees Celcium and sit there. Thats pretty hot in there. Then you get thrown with cold water(as a variation - fall down to the snow, if any, or go to the cold river). This may be repeated multiple times and drinking water or beer to make you sweat even more in between. But the main part of the "going to banya" process is that you are being slapped roughly with wet hot birch broom. In other words, its hardly explainable, it needs to be experienced. The result is yonger skin, its cleaning and just feeling better. (I fe-e-e-el good!!) But the idea is also in communication between people. It is also allowed.
So the story is that an american guy during the process bequeathed his watches to me because he thougt he wouldnt survive and afterwards said that nobody would believe him when back home that he, naked, was being beaten by Russian woman with a bush.
Another cool story.
There is a title within the Cs - The nomadic ambassador. This is cool enough, Casey Fenton, the founder, has it, for example. So one of them stayed in our City and was supposed to be hosted by one of the couchsurfers here. But it turned out that he just by accident met me through his friends (being already in the city) As a result this guy spent the whole week being hosted by me and appeared at the place of his former host just twice - to leave his belongings and grab his stuff.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I hosted around 50 people so far. Last summer (2006) I had 10 friends at the website, now I have 67 - and I got to know all of them throgh the cs. This summer (2007) I had so many people I hosted so I even had to make and fill in a spreadsheet where I had a time line to know when people were arriving and leaving and I split people to different rooms because of their gender.
Me personally, I was hosted only once in Poland, Warsaw, but only for 8 hours. My host took me to the club. I left it before my host. The funny thing was that I was trying to open the wrong door(I mixed up the floor) with his keys at 3 o'clock in the morning. I was lucky that nobody reacted. Otherwise I would have spent the next morning in a polish prison instead of flying back home.
