About Me

Well lets see, I am originally from South Africa but have been living in China for almost 6 years now, no I am not an English teacher on a long gap year. I am a veterinary nurse. My needs are pretty simple if i have a strong cup of black tea with me at all times, and a good book I am happy. I am also wonderfully gay.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Well to be absolutely frank, sitting in a hotel room with a map or an app is absolutely boring, why google when you can ask a local, Am I lazy no, pre-research is a must but i want real stories and if this person happens to mention that there is an amazing reasonably priced restaurant not too far away then so be it;-)

Interests

I have loads of interests but I suppose my main one is Flora and Fauna, coming from a small-ish town in South Africa and having greenery and animal sounds all around this is truly the one main thing I miss about my country. Other than that I love the theatre and having a good cup of strong black tea with friends.

Music, Movies, and Books

I do love a good romantic movie, but as i am in a relationship and my partner (I am gay) loves the more (cough, cough) 007, Mission Impossible type films, it seems to me my genre has been opened to running, shooting, explosions, did i say running;-) Other than that when i was growing up I did love to see a deep meaningful art movie every now and again.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

As one of my great passions is conservation of all animals great and small, I am dead against animal cruelty e.g badly run zoos, I hate circuses and animals used in the tourism industry e.g elephant back riding, Orangutan selfies. Recently i visited a animal retirement and rehabilitation centre about 4hrs drive from Bangkok, Thailand and was absolutely overcome with joy at how caring people from around the world take these animals and remind them (through months of slow introductions) that they are wild and free, truly free. I think about this experience often. I have done some other fantastic more "extreme" things but this particular one is my favourite.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My Asian experiences and my energetic love for people and life, if my host has a personality then as they say "two personalities with good sense of humour makes for a good time" (sorry that was not very interesting was it) let me ponder a bit more.

PONDER DONE: Been to Everest base camp on the Chinese side coming from Tibet, fantastic experience indeed;-)
