ABOUT ME

Well, I'm a recent college grad who loves travel and adventure. I studied international studies and women and gender studies in school, and am very passionate about seeing/understanding(?) the world as best I can. I lived in Quito, Ecuador for five months, and speak Spanish relatively well. I love outdoor activities, reading Carl Hiaasen and/or Jane Austen, and drinking Oregon microbrews and California wines. Also, I'm going to be going into the Peace Corps in February. I don't know where yet, but I'm supposed to work in the field of public health (which is hopefully what I'll also go to grad school for). And I have a pet basset hound, who is the coolest dog ever because I can tie her ears around her head and they'll stay there for a while.

PHILOSOPHY

Basically, just to be happy. If something doesn't make me happy, I don't do it. If it does, I do.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm not sure how I participate in the CS project yet. My friend and I are going to travel around Spain and Morocco, and this will be the first time either of us have ever CouchSurfed. However, I've spoke with several friends who have tried it and they've had nothing but good things to say about their experiences so I'm optimistic. I think it's a really cool project and definitely something I could get on board with.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've never formally participated in the CouchSurfing Project, however I've done some informal couchsurfing in the form of crashing at friends or friends of friends' places while traveling, and I definitely prefer that form of travel to hotels. It's more relaxed, you don't feel isolated and the air doesn't smell like it comes from a can.

Volcanoes! Gender issues (specifically related to sexual and reproductive health), traveling, running, reading, cycling, cooking, wine and beer, Broadway (or cheaper, off-Broadway) musicals, yoga, knitting, flowers, and a bazillion other things that I can't think of right now.

Favorite books/enjoyable books I've read recently: Anything by Jane Austen or the Bronte sisters, pretty much everything I've read by Carl Hiaasen, "Foe" by J.M. Coetzee, "Wide Sargasso Sea" by Jean Rhys, most of bell hooks' feminist theory, "Secret Life of Bees," "The Alphabet Sisters," "Wicked" (who doesn't?), and Meg Cabot books (they're my secret addiction).
