About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make giant footsteps for others to walk in.

ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in the suburbs of Los Angeles, California, from which I slowly migrated north through my young adult life. I received my B.S. in mechanical engineering from UC Berkeley and moved to Oregon shortly afterwards to work as an engineer at Garmin AT in Salem for a year. While I loved Oregon, my position there was unfulfilling, which precipitated a move to Atlanta to pursue my doctoral degree at Georgia Tech. The transition was hard, but I truly love Atlanta and wish to share that love with everyone that I meet.

Academics and scientific research are a huge part of my experience, but I choose to focus on my relationships with people as the driving force in my life. Above all, I strive to be an educator in my field and to shape the development of aspiring colleagues and nascent engineering students. I hope I can impart my love of knowledge to those around me, and I strive to create an atmosphere of learning and shared experience in whatever I do and wherever I go.

PHILOSOPHY

Take advantage of the time between input and response.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My living situation does not currently allow me to share my couch or living space with others, but my parter Elise and I host couchsurfers on a regular basis in her apartment and I've discovered how wonderful of an experience that can be. The people I've met and the stories I've heard have changed me. What else can I really ask for?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have never surfed anothers' couch, but I've co-hosted many times and can say that each has been memorable in it's own way. From hosting well-travelled to veterans to first-time adventurers, the range of experiences has always shared one aspect in common - a fundamentally positive world view and willingness to experience life. Hopefully it continues as my couchsurfing encounters grow in number!

Interests

I'm an avid fan of soccer and have played competitively my entire life. I'm more than willing to chat about the league table and the latest manager gossip. I love to read, make things, watch movies, and ride my bike. I am the best eater of nachos on the eastern seaboard and I know a thing or two about beer. Let's talk about it!

  • juggling
  • origami

Music, Movies, and Books

One of each:

Author - Haruki Murakami, for his ability to make that one thing you remember feeling that one time just so. damn. real.

Director - Quentin Tarantino, for all his flaws and all his absurdity.

Musician - Killer Mike, for his incredible flow, crushing beats, and devastating politics.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to sit and talk about mathematics, engineering, and scientific process from a technical, ethical, or philosophical point of view. I can show you how to juggle a soccer ball in the air with your feet, how to properly throw a frisbee, and how to fold origami.

I'm an amateur who plays at the guitar and would love to learn more. I also would like to be taught more recipes and food related things, because eating is wonderful and I do as much as I can of it. Most importantly, I'd love to learn more about you!
