About Me

Hello there,
My name is Rachael, I'm a college student in the U.S. and I'm planning to depart on my first international vacation, June 23rd. I've never traveled much outside of the U.S. before and I'm very eager to do so. I've been dreaming of this opportunity for quite some time. After a very difficult year experiencing the loss of my sister, I finally felt ready and motivated to explore.

A little bit about what I do in my day to day... I'm a nanny for two families at the moment. My employers, (basically second family), were gracious enough to let me embark on this journey for the summer before I start school again. I also work at a sushi restaurant on the weekends.

Right now, I am studying communications at Wayne State University and hoping to find some deeper rooted passions while exploring new places and cultures this summer.

I love good conversations and happy hours. I try to excercise everyday, though I love lounging when I give myself the opportunity to do so. (I'm usually go-go-go!) I would consider myself a very laid back individual. I like to laugh and I appreciate those who make me laugh! I'm a good listener, and love learning from those around me. I do pretty well living on the go. I don't spend much time at home here in the states because I love to roam. Basically just an American girl awaiting her first international adventure...! Please ask me anything... I'm willing to share more :-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've heard really great things about the relationships built while using this app. I wanted to not only use hostels alone while exploring Europe, but couch surfing in hopes to establish life long friendships and experience different culture on a deeper level.

Interests

I'm very spontaneous and pretty much down for any adventure. I love to try new foods and meet new friends. I hope to learn to play the ukulele while vacationing and train for a half marathon. I've learned running is one of the best ways to explore any city!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I haven't traveled much besides within the U.S./Canada. I am over the moon to have the opportunity to travel Europe this summer. One trip near and dear to me happened this past summer when I drove 20 hours (spur of the moment quitting my job) with close friends to aid in relief to hurricane Harvey victims. A large group of us stayed in a church on air mattresses for a week just outside of Houston Texas. I met some of the strongest people I will never forget and made life long friends in the process of helping rebuild houses and distribute supplies. A very humbling experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to cook and bake. I'm most excited to take home new recipes that I learn on this trip that I can share with my loved ones back home. I know a decent amount about fitness... Though I am self taught. I am no expert just an enthusiast.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A listening ear, a wing man if needed, my best stories so far.
