I've done it a couple times with friends and had amazing experiences. It's such a great way to meet new people and explore more of the local things in a new place.

In high school I moved to Italy to study abroad for a year. I didn't know any Italian, and was immersed by living with a host family and going to school where hardly anyone spoke English. I am still close with my host family and Italy is like a second home.
