About Me

This is like when you have to give a fun fact in a 'get to know you' game and your mind goes completely blank. I'm from England where I trained as a secondary history teacher but I recently decided I'd prefer a job where I actually get to know the people I'm working with so I took some time off to work and travel which I'm loving. I'm really enjoying meeting new people, exploring new places and trying new things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I first got to Australia I spent 6 months living with and working for a family in Sydney and I found it a great way to make the most of my stay, no one knows more about an area than people who live locally and I love having the chance to make friends in new cities.

Interests

Unsurprisingly with my training I'm kind of a history geek, so I love learning about different cultures. I also really love all kind of sports involving water like swimming and windsurfing, though admittedly while I've tried surfing I had balance related issues. Sailing in particular I love though!!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm fairly relaxed when it comes to music, I like most things I hear (particularly singing along to them very off key when I'm by myself) but I love movies/tv shows and books.
I'm a particularly big fan of comedies and I love British comedies especially like Black Books, Blackadder, Coupling, IT Crowd and especially Miranda. Favourite movie though is probably LOTR.
In terms of books I like sci fi and fantasy in particular, I thought the divergent books were awesome and after taking a lot of persuasion to read them I really enjoyed the Pern books but I probably couldn't pick an all time favourite,

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

While travelling one thing that particularly comes to mind was sleeping out under the stars in a swag when I went out to see Uluru. Obviously when you are asleep you forget where you are and then wake up, roll over and there are the stars, which is pretty amazing, but I'm always looking to top it. See more and do more.

In work I was helping a student one to one with her reading and comprehension and she made a year's progress during the 3 months I worked with her which was a pretty incredible feeling.

Teach, Learn, Share

As I said I love learning about different cultures but that extends to different customs and food and experiences and of course I'd love to know what you think the best things to do are in the city you live in.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I really enjoyed sharing food with my host family. I'm honestly not convinced there are many traditionally English recipes in the world but I have favorites that I really enjoy cooking for people (mostly Mexican) and its a nice way to get to know people. I also love playing card games, like whist and slam.
