About Me

CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

I'm a 22 year old kiwi and I make the most of every minute I have on this amazing planet. I love meeting new people and having adventures and enjoying the great outdoors together. I am a reasonably quiet person in the sense that I don't smoke/take drugs/drink much, but I enjoy a beer occasionally, and love a good yarn. I just got home from a 16 month trip and settling terribly back into life in one place, haha.

PHILOSOPHY

Adventure is dangerous, but routine is lethal.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have hosted only once, which was great fun - I guess not so many people are keen to visit small town rural New Zealand. I also took some backpacking apple picking couchsurfers on a hike to my favourite hot springs near my hometown. I have surfed quite a few times now , and often go to local meetups in the places I visit.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I can safely say that I have made some lifelong friends through couchsurfing. My best memories of my trip so far relate to the people I have met, and the adventures we have had together.

Interests

I do love exploring new cities, and especially enjoy trying local food and music (but I'm not so big on nightclubbing). BUT, my true love is being outdoors - hiking, biking, kayaking, and skiing. I love mountains and being in the wilderness and am especially interested in insects and botany. Other interests include playing music (saxophone, piano, clarinet, ukulele), books, conservation biology, environmental issues, sustainable living, gardening and more recently, art.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like movies mainly for their soundtracks - Into the Wild, Amelie, the Intouchables, Les Miserables and August Rush are probably my favourites.
I love listening to music and mainly listen to folk, rock and jazz. My favourite artists include Fleet Foxes, Damien Dempsey, Beirut, Eddie Vedder, Radiohead, Muse, Andrew Bird, Gomez, The Frames, and so many more.
I read anything, but never read a book twice (well except Harry Potter which I have read 8 times......sad.....I know). Recently I have enjoyed Life of Pi and The Great Gatsby.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

where to begin?

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you to play a song on the ukulele (mine is kiwifruit shaped). And about insects.....but most people don't like insects.

I'd like to learn to cook new international dishes, improve my Spanish, learn to play the banjo, get a motorcycle licence, try surfing (waves not couches), go canyoning.
I also like learning about the history and art history of the countries I visit because chances are I don't know much when I arrive.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Belgium, Cambodia, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mongolia, Netherlands, New Caledonia, Poland, Russian Federation, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

New Zealand, United States
