About Me

Hello, fellow Couch Surfer! My name is Rachel, and my husband's name is Joseph. I am from the United States of America, and my husband is from India. We met on a service trip to Mexico in 2007. We married on Dec. 12, 2009. We currently reside in the United States of America. Outside of traveling, we love volunteering, doing outdoor activities, and spending time with family and friends. As far as traveling, we love to voluntour (volunteer while traveling), learn about other cultures and customs, and try foods from all over the world. As a couple, we've been to Mexico, India, Costa Rica, Egypt, Jamaica, Singapore, Thailand, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Turkey, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Italy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My husband and my favorite thing to do while traveling is to see the place through the eyes of locals. They hold the keys to the local culture and traditions and always have great suggestions for hidden treasures off the beaten path. We decided to give Couch Surfing a try for this very reason. We hope to meet you soon!

Interests

I love to travel! I love to dance with my eyes closed and the rhythm in my soul! I love anything outdoors! Hiking, biking, camping, etc. I love cultures and learning about others' ways of life. I love to volunteer. I love helping others to help themselves, particularly through education and non-profits. I love to be healthy. I love connecting with others over a good cup of chai and a nice conversation about dreams and the meaning of life. Maybe we'll share a great conversation soon!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love music that moves the soul with rhythm or meaningful words. I don't watch movies very often, but I do like movies with great meaning and life lessons. I like books that inspire, such as "Tuesday with Morrie," "The Dream Giver," and the "Alchemist."

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My husband and I started and ran a tutoring company for 3 years that reached 249 low income elementary and middle school students. It was extremely challenging, but it was very rewarding to know those students were better equipped to excel academically and in their lives.
