In September last year, I quit my job, handed over the keys to my flat and left the city that I had spent the last 27 years in or around. I headed for Medellin and lived there for two months, obsessed with the place. In November, I reluctantly dragged myself away and have since been travelling round South America, attempting to improve my Spanish, walking up hills a lot, drinking wine a lot more, not getting my five-a-day, coping with noisy night buses and sleep deprivation as the new normal... Most importantly, I've enjoyed meeting new people, whether I spent two minutes or two months in their company.
