I am still a student, so the financial aspect of Couchsurfing is wonderful! Also, I love to get to know the people wherever I go, and couchsurfing is a great way to do that. I want to know what a city *feels* like, not just where its tourist points are. Also, I want the opportunity to speak other languages.

I didn't want to be a musician when I grew up. I wanted to be a marine biologist! Music was always in my life, but always in the background - a hobby - never the focus. After my freshman year in college, I had to choose a major. I called my mom sobbing because I was about to go fill out the paperwork to be a music major. I was scared. I knew it would be difficult to make a living as a musician. I knew it would mean changing my sedentary lifestyle for one of adventure. I didn't know if I was good enough to make it happen. My mom just said, "Rachel, you're made for music. It's what you're meant to do. Don't fight it."

And, like most moms, she was right. I found a love for opera. It stimulates my love of psychology (both my parents are psychologists); opera is all about how people feel such incredibly deep, basic feelings that they cannot be expressed any other way but in music. It stimulates my love of storytelling. It stimulates my love of reaching out to my fellow man.
