About Me

Originally from the Chicago(ish)-area, I've been living in the DMV since September 2014 and was kinda all over the place before that!
I have a degree in environmental science that had me working with the National Park Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and Forest Service in various places around the country. These days I work from home as a contractor for Google while I pursue grad schools and embark on a career change, yay!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I did couchsurfing a few times in college but haven't kept up with it much since then. It definitely fits the budget and you can usually meet some pretty cool people through it.

Interests

I enjoy almost anything outdoor related...hiking, camping, climbing, hammock-laying. I also enjoy music, traveling (duh!), and other cliche things that people enjoy.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a sucker for bluegrass and that good ol' texas swing. But I really will listen and like just about anything. I don't really watch too many movies anymore, but I'll binge-watch my way through some Mad Men, House of Cards, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Cosmos any day. Some of my favorite books are by Jack Kerouac, but Fahrenheit 451 might be my favorite book of all time. Lately I've been reading a lot of non-fiction psychology books, which is good fun too.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I backpacked through Zion National Park a few years ago which is by far the best place I've gone backpacking so far. The fact that we did it in the middle of summer when daytime temps were like 110-115 degrees with few places to find water along the way AND we didn't need to call in emergency rescue was pretty amazing.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a pretty easy-going person and can get along with just about anyone. If, as a host, you prefer to keep to yourself more, I'm totally fine with that! I can also get along with people who want a more social guest.
I can also cook/buy dinner/drinks/muffins/etc. for any host who is kind enough to take me into their homes!
