About Me

I am American originally from Baltimore, Maryland. I studied Political Science and French in Virginia and then moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where I taught high school French for three years. I love New Orleans more than anything for its unique architecture, food, music, and joie de vivre. I am currently living in Rabat, Morocco where I am teaching English at the secondary teacher training university, studying Darija (Moroccan Arabic), taking Spanish classes, and traveling throughout the country and to Europe when I have time. I am really passionate about promoting language education and travel.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As someone that feels very strongly about the importance of human connection while traveling, I feel like Couchsurfing is an opportunity for me to engage with the culture of a city where I'm traveling in a real and authentic way.

Interests

I am really passionate about education, literature, learning languages, social justice issues, and travel. I am planning to get a masters in International Education and make a career of combining these interests.

Music, Movies, and Books

I collect The Little Prince in different languages for every place that I travel! It is my favorite book and right now I have it in: English, French, Spanish, Catalan, German, Arabic (Fus'ha), Moroccan Arabic, and Czech and hoping to keep getting it in more languages! I also love Albert Camus, Milan Kundera, Angela Davis, Simone de Beauvoir, Jean-Paul Sartre, Frantz Fanon, and other political theory and books about social issues such as race, gender, criminal justice, education, etc. I enjoy foreign movies and series as well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I took 24 students who had never left the country to France and Spain for an academic trip for the first time in the school's history in April of 2014 and 2015! I also worked on a farm in France for a month after my semester abroad.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm willing to teach or practice languages I know or am trying to learn with someone! I'm willing to learn any secrets or tips to a city that I wouldn't get otherwise, how to cook new things, learn more languages! I'm willing to share my thoughts and experiences in order to forge the unique human connection that is built with traveling.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Intellectual conversation, language practice, and a heart and mind that is always willing to learn more!
