About Me

MISSION/GOALS:
I want to travel EVERYWHERE, see EVERYTHING, and eat ALL the food.

PHILOSOPHY:

"Live, Travel, Adventure, Bless, and Don't be sorry." -Jack Kerouc

About Me:
I'm a travel and food lover-and a total nerd when it comes to learning about people, cultures, and recipes. My husband Sam and I moved to Korea to teach English and have adventures, and we're both very interested in the tiny house on wheels movement. We're working on building/designing our own mobile home so that we can move anywhere we want to fulfill our dreams of meeting others and continuing to grow and learn in this big amazing world!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love meeting people, and my dream is to travel the world and make that happen. Couchsurfing is one step towards making that happen!

(See my What I can Share with Hosts sections for my philosophy about being a guest)

Singles and couples are great to host, and we also like to get together with people for coffee or drinks to help them get around the area! We'll take you to our favorite Dak Galbi restaurant and introduce you to Korean Shave Ice dessert, as well as help you find other places to stay and sites to see based on your interests.

Bigger Groups: I'm more than willing to host large groups for a night or two-BUT you'll have to sleep on the floor, since at the moment we're living in a small one room studio outside of Seoul, Korea.

Interests

I'm interested in language, books, ALL music, learning how to cook, backpacking, meeting YOU, html coding, web design, and blogging.

I run a website called savoringsimple.com where I blog about food (especially healthy things or Korean dishes!) and our building project (see the About Me section:-))

I'm also a music enthusiast-if it makes noise, it interests me-I love having conversations about all kinds of music and being introduced to new things!

I also love story telling, so if you have some great (travel or food themed is fun, but anything works!) anecdotes, I'll love you all the more.

Music, Movies, and Books

MOVIES:

When Harry Met Sally
any old films in general
DESPICABLE ME is the greatest film of all time
most Will Ferrell movies
Henry V with Kenneth Branagh
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the old one)

BOOKS
That's ridiculous to have one single favorite, but I love all British lit from the 1800's era and I'm developing an interest in African Lit as well. I also love biographies and all things historical, so we're sure to have something in common:-)

Here's some of the things I've read and loved OR that have just really made me think:
Anything by C. Dickens
A Clockwork Orange
Turn of the Screw (I couldn't sleep the entire time I read it, but I loved it!)
Anything about Sherlock Holmes
Things Fall Apart (Chinua Achebe)
A Grain of Wheat (Nguigi wa Thiong'o)
The Heart of Redness
I LOVE Wuthering Heights (Bronte)
Chronicles of Narnia
War and Peace by Tolstoy
The Great Gatsby
Madame Bovary-Flaubert
Crime and Punishment
1984-Orwell
Heart of Darkness
The Grapes of Wrath-Steinbeck
Fahrenheit 451
Lord of the Flies
....so many more (Recommend some and we're friends already)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moved to Korea. For me, it was a big deal to leave my native country, and we're loving every second of it-it's definitely an adventure!

Had my own music performed -at a CASTLE- in Italy! That was a big deal for me. :-)

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to cook, and I will make you breakfast out of whatevers in your pantry. I have worked with gluten and dairy sensitivities, so if you have any allergies I'll know what to do!

I enjoy sharing time with people in the kitchen, so I'll teach you how to cook a South Korean dish and I promise to introduce you to something besides kimchi!

What I Can Share with Hosts

NOTE: I work with both spectrums of hosts-the super friendly and the ones that are busy and can just offer a place to crash. I'll respect your privacy and life, too. We're very independent, so we don't need much more than a couch or a floor to survive a few days.

That being said, we would LOVE to meet and talk to you! I'll hang out with you and swap stories, philosophize, and talk about travelling with you as much as you want.

If you give me your kitchen, I'll cook for you and will bring you something fun from South Korea-if you've never tried much ginseng, then I'll bring some for you to try (Ginseng in white chocolate is to DIE for) and my favorite dark chocolate (only found in S. Korea!) as well.

I'm very clean, and if my husband is with me, he is too;-). I'll leave your place cleaner than I found it, and I also make excellent smoothies.

Basically, I try to fit into your lifestyle as much as possible while still respecting your boundaries and being a conscientious guest.
