About Me

Word-nerd ex-poet/tour guide turned high school English teacher and marriage celebrant. Travelling with Alex (pictured) who's a plant/garden/brewery/cocktail enthusiast who fled the concrete jungle of New York to soak up Sydney sunshine. We're both taking a year off to travel South America, learn some Spanish and hopefully make friends with some locals!

I value kindness, compassion and endless curiosity about the world around us. Together, we can share endless stories, a sense of childlike enthusiasm about life and humans and nature and how bloody beautiful this life is despite it all.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been lucky enough to have so many amazing Couchsurfing experiences over the years. I've been out of the game for a while due to travelling mostly with work, but still cherish the friendships I've made with hosts and have even met up again with many of them around the world!

Interests

I'm a sucker for all things word-related. Poetry, books, music, random scraps of phrases people have uttered.
When I first started working as a tour guide, it was all about getting to visit amazing countries, but pretty soon you realise the countries are the same every time you go through, what changes is the people. I think every person in the world has something to teach or share in a way that changes you, and isn't that the whole point of travel/society/couchsurfing/life?

Music, Movies, and Books

Khruangbin. Leon Bridges. Channel Tres. Fred Again... Raye. Jungle. Genesis Owusu.

Almost Famous. Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. Empire Records. High Fidelity. Heathers. Big Fish.

In The Dream House. On Earth We Are Briefly Gorgeous. On The Road. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. The Things They Carried. Invisible Monsters. A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. The Little Prince.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Roadtripped America on a spoken word poetry tour with my best friend/fellow poet.
Lived in a town so remote, when the International Space Station passed overhead, we were closer to that than we were to the nearest town.
Lived on a construction site in Berlin for 4 months.
Been blessed enough to lead over 1400 young people through 25+ different countries.
Faced my own insecurities & shaved my head to raise money for cancer!

(I know that's not one thing.. Math is not my friend.)

Teach, Learn, Share

I've got a tonne of travel stories/random guiding facts and can talk books for hours. Alex has their finger on the pulse on world events, politics, pop culture and will simply have you laughing for days. I'm a teacher and pro at writing speeches/wedding vows and drafting stories or scripts of most kinds. Alex has a background in landscaping and marketing both so can trade skills or advice across the board. Would love to improve our (currently very basic) Spanish!
