About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My current mission is to meet the morning with optimism and to look for beauty in life, to believe in the goodness of people and to see life as an adventure!

ABOUT ME

I live a pretty simple life. I was an Organic Farmer in Upstate New York for a few years, and have since gone back to school and am currently a nurse at the local hospital. I'm a firm believer in living a rich life and in being honest with yourself about the person that you want to be and pursuing becoming that person. I love to meet people from all over the world and love to hear about what makes life beautiful for them, and to share with them what I find beautiful about life.

PHILOSOPHY

Live richly. Breathe deeply. Love thoughtfully.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love the entire concept of extending hospitality to strangers and sharing your little spot on the earth with them. I love it. I love meeting people and ending your time together as friends-- and since couch surfing seems to fosters that-- I'm excited to be part of it. I’ve met people through couch surfing who will be my friends for life.

Interests

I love food and everything that goes with it: growing, cooking, preserving. I love meeting and spending time with interesting people. I love to read and love to discover what makes a place unique.

I've been running and cycling and have a goal of doing a triathlon. I ran a half marathon a few years ago and loved it.

I love hiking and being outside. Florida has some beautiful places to swim- lots of lakes, springs, the ocean.

Music, Movies, and Books

I sort of like the same types of movies and books as I do people: unpretentious, thoughtful, and leave you feeling good after spending time with them.

Some of my favorite books: books/stories by Leo Tolstoy (War and Peace, Anna Karininia), Harry Potter (although the 3rd was my favorite!), Peace Pilgrim, Biographies of Abraham Lincoln (Team of Rivals is a favorite), Freakanomics, books about Permaculture and whole-hearted living, anything by Temple Grandin, The Emperor of All Maladies, Pride and Prejudice, The Secret Garden and A Little Princess.

Favorite movies: Star Wars, Fantasic Mr. Fox, movies about inter-species friendships (like Animal Buddies on Netflix... if you're ever feeling sad, that movie will make you feel better), The Saint, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (I'm a big Paul Newman fan), Singing in the Rain, Sound of Music, Anne of Green Gables, The Last Unicorn, Labyrinth, The Imitation Game, and... I'm sort of a sucker for super-hero movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Built a cob pizza oven (super fun, and made the best pizza!)

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to share about growing vegetables or plants. I have spent a lot of time preserving food- dehydrating, canning, etc and would love to help anyone with any domestic things. I'm actually pretty good at sewing as well.

I also LOVE yard work, pruning, raking, etc.

I love to learn about and trying new foods.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my optimism and good energy! Plus if your heart or breathing stops I’m CPR certified and can keep your blood pumping until help arrives!

Countries I’ve Visited

Belize, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, Thailand
