About Me

Hello! My name is Rachel, I'm in Canada from April to October 2017 for a six month adventure to travel, learn, meet new people and experience all the wonder and wildness of Canada.

I love travelling, fitting in epic trips between meaningful jobs. I've worked in charities for most of my adult life, on rural exclusion, social justice, local food and land rights. In the past decade I've been working with organic farmers, running a training programme for new veg growers, conferences, events, setting up the UK's first national network for CSAs and working on land access in Europe.

Being in the woods and wilds is a real treat, a couple of years again I got into bushcraft and would love to be able to truly experience being far away from cities and learning some more back country skills.

I've always been interested in community, spending 3 months working on a kibbutz in Israel when I was 19, working as the Sustainable Living Coordinator on a community in Spain for year (running the kitchen) and visiting many other eco-villages and communities.

I spent 3 weeks in Canada in the fall last year in Ontario and loved it! I found Canadians to be some friendly and welcoming and I can't wait to meet more of you!

I'm on twitter @Rachel_Harries although its mainly related to my current work and Instagram @RachelHarries17 which is more non work stuff. Have a look!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing to meet local people and really get to know a place, rather than just being a tourist. Hopefully to make some new lifelong friends too!

Interests

Food is a passion, local and organic, foraging, growing, cooking, fermenting - I love it all and I have a growing interest in wild foods, and come with some knowledge, although of course it is UK based.
