About Me

CURRENT MISSION

More math, more running, more places

ABOUT ME

I'm a grad student in mathematics at UC Santa Barbara. When I'm not doing math I like to be on the beach, running through mountains, or hosting grills (even though I'm a veggie). Lately I've been doing a lot of biking too.

I've got long hair and a beard. People say I look like Jesus or a dirty hippie. In truth I'm a well disguised Santa Clause.

I like to think I'm friendly, laid back, and down to Earth. I love meeting strangers, especially over a few beers or coffee.

PHILOSOPHY

The world's an entirely too complicated place to think you ever know anything. But I think that most people are good at heart and worth getting to know. I always try to be friendly, understanding, and forgiving towards others.

I've also recently discovered the importance of staying true to your facial hair.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a few friends that introduced me to couchsurfing, but I haven't done a whole lot with the Santa Barbara community. Currently blaming that on being too busy...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've used chouchsurfing a few of times to find places to stay while traveling. It's always been a very good experience. Traveling wouldn't be as much fun without it.

Interests

Running, hiking, climbing, biking, cooking, brewing, rocking out.

Oh, and math. Lots of math.

Long distance running is my favorite thing in the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Cat's Cradle. Best book ever.

My music tastes are all over. Lately I've been listening to a lot of Medeski Martin and Wood, Thievery Corporation, and Portishead.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once ran 50 miles through the Appalachian mountains in just under 9 hours. One of the best days of my life.

Channel Islands National Park is possibly the most beautiful place I've ever been. If you're in the Santa Barbara/Ventura area, I highly recommend it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I brew my own beer, and love to talk about it or give demonstrations. When traveling, it's likely I'll have some with me. I like to show it off.

I can also help you with your calculus homework. Seriously.
