About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Traveling and keep learning every day.

ABOUT ME
I'm an electronics engineer with a deep passion for the outdoors. I've moved from Romania to Ireland in 2005 in order to complete my final year project. I fell in love with the place (the horizontal rain, green fields and occasional sunshine) and decided to stay for couple of more years for a master's degree. 10 years later I'm still here (master degree complete :) ), mad about the Irish coastline, the sea, the green fields and the Guinness. If you haven't tasted a pint of Guinness in Ireland you don't know what you're missing, because Guinness doesn't travel (it pretty much means any Guinness you're drinking outside Ireland is probably muck.).
I'm a direct and honest person and expect for the very same from the people around me. I believe that life and situations are just to complicated to hide behind a mask or have a different game. I've also been told that I'm a quiet person, but I wonder how else are you supposed to listen if not being quiet first (also Irish people talk a lot :) ).
In Romania I have lived in a big town and as a student did not have many opportunities to go traveling. Also there was a lot of learning involved ... and partying. I have discovered my love for the outdoors in Ireland. I started by hiking the green hills and the few mountains available (not that many). Then there was/is road cycling, climbing and more recently surfing. After getting into all these activities I have discovered all these far away destinations that I would like to visit, so traveling became a bug. A few months ago I have decided to quit my job and go traveling for a year with my girlfriend and our van. So I'm hoping to meet many may wonderful people, have a chat, couple of beers and learn a few things. Slán!

PHILOSOPHY
Life's too short to be cranky. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been mainly hosting couch surfers and showing them the beautiful spots in west Clare, Ireland. I'll be traveling from June 2015 and I hope to get to meet wonderful people on the road and get to share fantastic experiences, stories and why not, a few drinks.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I have been hosting travelers which has been a wonderful experience. All the stories I heard determined me to become a traveler for a short while and go around the world in my van.

Interests

Being outdoors is an important part of my life. That is probably because I work for long hours in an office so I enjoy spending as much as possible time outside, in the nature when not working. I enjoy:
-rock climbing - (it was love at first sight :))
-hillwalking, scrambling
-cycling: road or MTB
-surfing - only started recently so I'm a newbie, but I love being in the sea

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy reading Sci-Fi books: The Foundation, Dune and Ender's Game. Books based on historical event: The Accursed Kings or The Gulag Archipelago.

Some DVDs you might find in my collection: The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Life of Others, Reservoir Dogs, Life is Beautiful, City of God, La Vie en Rose, but I watch mostly everything.
... and of course some adventure one: Waveriders, First Ascent Series, Vertical Sailing, Asgard Jamming (climbers will know what I am talking about :D )

I listen to most music, but I prefer rock.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ice climbing in Rjukan, Norway; climbing in Switzerland, kayaking on Lough Hyne - Co. Cork, Ireland; watching sun setting over the Aran Islands Co. Clare, Ireland

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you electronics and programming, but that's probably too boring to start with. Otherwise there's always climbing, surfing (can give you a few tips here). I can show you why I love spending time outdoors and why the sunsets in the Burren are the best sunsets you'll ever see.

Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Moldova, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom
