Overview
About Me
I grew up in Brazil but moved to the US as a teen. I worked in medical research briefly but ended up becoming a teacher. I have always loved making friends from all over the world, learning about their cultures and customs.
I've had roommates from India, South Korea, the Phillipines, Ethiopia and Dominican Republic. Some of my best friends are from Latin countries and many are spread across the globe. I work with the local Burmese refugee ministry.
I have a genuine interest in people, hearing their stories, finding out what 'makes them tick'. For better or for worse I'm always amazed at humanity. Hence the psychology degree.
And I love food. I love trying out different cuisines, especially when it's cooked by a native and not a watered down restaurant version.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've lived in the US most of my life. I love being a Brazilian-American and my friends and family here. But I think the world is too big a place to be stuck in one spot for too long.
I'd love to meet people from other places or even only different backgrounds and I"m getting ready to take my 2 kids across the pond and finally see Europe. It'd be an even grander experience if I was able to show them what European life is really like from those who live there. I think back roads are a lot more interesting than tourist traps and make for much better stories. I'd rather have an insider's perspective.
While I think this couch surfing is a wonderful idea (just found out about it) I also don't expect people to cater to us or cook for us unless it's something they'd enjoy doing. I'd be more than happy to help with chores, food shopping, cooking and being the best guests we can possibly be.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm an avid reader. Fiction mostly but not always. Anything by C.S. Lewis or Ted Dekker are usually my favorites. But I have more books then I can possibly read in a lifetime and my reading list is always growing.
I'm a science geek. Love Doctor Who and Bones ( I know these aren't movies).
What I Can Share with Hosts
Hospitality. Good food. I'm not the best of cooks but I am a great baker.
Meaningful conversations with my 3 yr old. He's practically an expert at everything or so he claims.
If I've the time, I'd love to show them around town and share my knowledge of local history and all the fun/interesting things in the area.
