About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn

ABOUT ME

I live in sunny Oakland, California. A few years ago I graduated from college, having studied anthropology. I also studied abroad in Bologna, Italy, which is where I used the magic of couchsurfing the most.

I am now in the process of applying to medical school, which can be long and grueling.

Meanwhile I have been working at the Berkeley farmers' market for the last four years. I love it!

Im also into humor, funny jokes, puns, etc.

Anyway...if there are any questions, concerns, suggestions, comments, doubts, implorings, beseechments, or entreatments, let me know.

PHILOSOPHY

This is a hard one. First of all, I really like Heidegger's 'ontological mode'...being in wonder THAT things ARE, rather than wondering WHY things are. I love this feeling...I want to have it more often.
Why do I live my life? That's a good question. I don't really know "why". I don't believe there is a determined purpose, or even a purpose I am supposed to determine. I guess for now I can only say that since there is no aim, the aim should be to be happy: which is being happy and making other people happy. Wait...maybe not. Being happy isn't all it's about, I guess. Being sad is just as much part of life. I mean, experiencing, and growing, and interacting with the environment and with others in a conscious way, and realizing that the meanings things have are meanings we give...this is what I want to do. So to correct what I said earlier, my aim is to create my own aim, and realize that all aims are created by us. This might be complete nonsense.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted some people in Bologna and Oakland, and I have surfed so far only in Amsterdam and Dublin.

Interests

I love biking in the hills. I love swimming, anywhere. I love climbing trees, especially redwoods. I love cooking, and I love spicy food. There are so many awesome people in this world...I'm addicted to meeting them. And I'm sick of small-talk! I want to have a real exchange, really be happy, and interact with people (I think that because of technology and other reasons, real human interaction becomes less and less "necessary" in our daily lives (necessary to 'productivity' in this face-to-faceless corporate capitalist world)...so everyone can live in their own little bubble without ever interacting with anyone, but at the same time, it's awesome what technology like the internet and organizations like this can do for human interaction..)

Music, Movies, and Books

Lots of jazz and afro-cuban music, and I'm always hoping to be introduced to new music.

I love Siddhartha and Narcissus and Goldmund, both by Herman Hesse. I also love the short stories of Julio Cortazar. And The Brothers Karamazov. And Rilke's Duino Elegies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spent three months in San Nicolás, a small rural village in northern Nicaragua.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll cook with or for you. It'll be tasty!!

I can also teach you SPANISH. OR Italian. Or maybe some music theory? Whatever...I think we can teach each other without thinking about teaching each other.
