About Me

(From Manila, Philippines currently living in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 )

CURRENT MISSION: To live life to the fullest

ABOUT ME

Took up BS Industrial Engineering at the University of the Philippines-Diliman, and pursued a career in IT thereafter.

I was named "Lucky" by my uncle because I was born on a Friday the 13th, and that is serious. He appended a second name just to add some spice, thus the name "Gil". Isn't it cool? lol. So people easily remember me because of my name, and I guess that's an advantage.

I am up for anything, that's why I'm here in CS. Looking forward to meeting different people and experiencing different stuff this world can offer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Meeting CSers over coffee/drink, whoever comes within or near my area. I keep in touch and try to keep my schedule open, in order to participate in upcoming CS events/ meet ups.

I intend to do the same when I travel to places--meet CSers along the way. And hopefully be able to host CSers as soon as I can, as I have been hosted before.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCES

Puerto Princesa, Philippines (Dec.2010) - Attended my first CS event in a bar in PP. Met CSers Enz, Sharon, Renwick, Mac, Angelito

Baguio, Sagada & Banawe, Philippines (Dec.2010) - Traveled with Enz for 5 days and met fellow CSers in a bar: Lily, Sunflower and Bonbon.

Taipei, Taiwan (Feb.2011) - Went to Taipei International Flora Expo with Donna, Gilbert, Mac, JiLing

Hualien, Taiwan (Feb.2011) - First time to be hosted by Dylan. Also met Jimmy who picked me up from the train station.

Shanghai, China (Sept.2011) - Traveled around Shanghai and went clubbing w/ Ozan

Hangzhou, China (Sept.2011) - Hosted by the great Pan, who simultaneously hosted Patrick, Jacek, Thomas, Dann and 3 other non-CSer ladies. 8 of us!

Nanjing/Zhengzhou/Xi'an, China (Oct.2011) - Hosted by very friendly Chinese locals. It was an awesome experience!

Tainan, Taipei (Nov.2016) - Felix was very kind to host me despite his very busy sched

Interests

- I am a huge fan of tennis. Between Nadal and Federer, I go for Rafa so I hope he'll surpass Federer's 16 grand slams a few years from now. My ultimate dream is to be able to watch live all the 4 grand slams in Melbourne, Paris, London and New York, at least once. And watch a few other smaller tournaments in Asia, Europe and USA.

- I love History and Geography. For history, my favorite topics are: ancient civilizations of Egypt, China, Mesopotamia, Aztec, Inca and Maya; medieval ages, Renaissance period and European and American history; World Wars 1 & 2. For geography, I usually look at maps, capital cities and states/ provinces, landmarks, etc. There are just many things to know which stimulate my hunger for learning. :)

- I also love Mathematics and Chemistry. During my college days, I worked as part-time tutor for Math and Chemistry. I earned very decent income, which was at par with my allowance from my parents, or sometimes even bigger. :D

- Business, Stock markets and World Economy also interest me. In fact, I am investing some money in the local stock market.

- I am starting to collect Starbucks mugs from the places that I visit. If there's no Starbucks available in that area, I get any type of mug/shot glass bearing the name of the place.

- And of course, traveling. backpacking. I intend to do 2 international and 1 or 2 local travels every year, depending on schedule and budget. Would love to travel with fellow CSers. For sure I'll travel as long as I can. There's a lot of things out there that I need to see and experience. And I know CS will greatly help me achieve this.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Trekked for 3D 2N from Kalaw to Inle Lake in Myanmar. It was awesome living with local communities in the mountains, taking a bath with rain water after an entire day of hiking, eating freshly made meals by our cook (part of the tour)--such a memorable experience!

Teach, Learn, Share

Would love to share my travel stories and life experiences in general :)
