I have done couchsurfing many times last years in Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, China, Italia... and hosted people from Netherland, Poland, Canada, Lithuania, France, England... Is perfect to know new people, cultures, and places with people who live there!
Every couchsurfing can be the beginning of a new friendship!
