Overview
About Me
Note: we live about 20 to 30 min. outside of the actual city center by tram, but depending on your arrival we can pick you up from the train station in Antwerp itself.
We both work full-time, so you will need to be able to entertain yourself during our working hours.
CURRENT MISSION
Conquering the world, one cupcake at a time.
ABOUT ME/US
First of all, I find it very difficult to talk about myself, so it's probably a good idea to read the rest of my profile (my interests say a lot about who I am) and my references. Either way, let me give it a shot.
I'm Ruby, I've been born and raised in Antwerp, though we've lived in various places slightly outside of the city center most of my life. I'm a very creative soul, and my mind is always going miles a minute, though you wouldn't really say so from the outside. I'm actually a semi-quiet person, though when I open up to people we could probably talk about the world and everything in it for hours at a time. I tend to care too much about everything and everyone, which is both a blessing and a curse at times. I love to hear travel stories, things about places I've never been to but dream of visiting. I'm a tad sarcastic. I love to dance, though I'm not particularly good at it. I'm a bit OCD and I like to plan everything out - even though I would love to do things spontaneously instead. I'm learning to let that go, the whole planning thing, and couchsurfing is definitely something that helps with that xD
Either way, I live together with my boyfriend Costa (so we'd both be hosting you and both be visiting you if we're traveling instead of hosting). We've been together since 2011, and lived together almost as long. Costa is a complimentary force to me, he has no problem with doing things unplanned, he cares - but never about those who don't deserve it. He's very funny and generally outgoing, and tends to pull me out of my shell when I'm being introvert.
We make a good team :)
PHILOSOPHY
Only as high as I reach can I grow,
Only as far as I seek can I go,
Only as deep as I look can I see,
Only as much as I dream can I be.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I love to meet new people and learn about new cultures. Whenever I go somewhere, I try to meet as much people as possible, from couchsurfing and beyond. I like staying in hostels for that reason, or of course - couchsurf. I'm always willing to show people around the city or meet up for a drink or a pick-nick or whatever, even if I'm not actually hosting them.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Well, for now my experience with CS is limited. I've gone to Pisa and I've met some very very nice couchsurfers there. I've stayed at a hostel so I haven't been hosted at someones' home yet, but they showed me around and it was a great experience. Definitely something to repeat! I've hosted some people and met a lot of great people in my home City through couchsurfing :)

Music, Movies, and Books
MOVIES - Hello, my name is Ruby, and I'm a movie addict! I tend to buy way more dvd's then I should. We have about 300 DVDs at home!
Among my favorites are Crash, Jawbreaker, Underworld, Scream, Shoot 'em Up and the Butterfly effect. I generally love the fantasy genre - Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings, vampire movies and superhero movies... I love Marvel!
Costa's favorites include Lord of the Rings, the Matrix and Star Wars.
MUSIC - I absolutely love music. It's one of the biggest parts of my life and I couldn't live without it. I'd go crazy without music.
I love rock, rockabilly, rock and roll and just plain catchy music. My favourite artists include the Stray Cats, Fallout Boy, Rise Against, Once Republic, AC/DC, Pentatonix, Metallica, Saliva, Breaking Benjamin, 12 Stones, Rise Against, Rammstein, Scissor Sisters, Them Crooked Vultures, 30 Seconds to Mars, Nirvana, Lily Allen, ...
Costa mostly likes Metal, though he's totally into Shake it off by Taylor Swift too, haha. We like a lot of the same music, but he also appreciates the harder rock/metal genre, whereas it mostly just makes me nervous xD
BOOKS - My favourite book is probably "Blood and Chocolate", by Anette Curtis Klause. And a Game of Thrones. I'm a MAJOR asoiaf fan. I mean major. I love those books to pieces. I'll read anything that's related to vampires. Yes, anything. So sue me. I love John Green. And generally I love the YA genre.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
At a certain time during my travel in Italy, I was in one of the Cinque Terre islands, Vernazza. I was convinced that it would be easy to walk to the next town, Monterosso, through Vernazza. It wasn't. What you could do was take the train, or you could take a long mountain pass road there. I was wearing inappropriate, definitely not hiking shoes and had a handbag with me, and decided to go hiking. You can not believe how glad I was when I finally saw that town past the mountain. "Wait, I did it?"
Though I wasn't that fond of New York at first, I had to say that walking through Central Park and it's area, seeing street musicians and creative people everywhere, and standing on Times Square by night was pretty darn impressive.
More so I just can't count the lovely places I've seen so far. And I want more!
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm a wiccan, though I don't really practice anymore. I know a bit about feng shui and a bit about tarot, i ching, scrying, ... I can teach you some Dutch, obviously. I bake and make chocolates (truffles, bonbons, pralines, ...) ! I cook a little. I can tell you something about the history of Antwerp, take you dancing, show you some less touristic places.
Costa can teach you MTG, if you're patient enough to learn it (that game is complicated!).
What I Can Share with Hosts
Laughs and stories and friendly conversation. I can cook a bit and I wouldn't mind making something for you or something. I can tell you about Belgium, or learn you some Dutch! Most of all we can take you to some of our favorite places, let you taste our favorite beers, etc.
