Overview
About Me
Hi , I am Rajiv. I joined couch surfing many years ago but didn't really use it. Recently, I opened a backpacker hostel in Unawatuna, in the south of Sri Lanka, and I am now interested in hosting some couchsurfers along with our regular guests at this property.
I grew up in Sri Lanka, and studied/lived in England for a few years. I have travelled to many countries in Asia, and a couple of countries in Europe. I always wanted to start my own business, and after getting professional experience as a marketer, I embarked on setting up a property development venture which is working out well for me. But I have always been someone who loves to meet people from all over the world, and this motivated me to get into the tourism industry. As backpacker hostels are the perfect setting for meeting travellers with interesting stories and experiences, I decided to start a backpacker hostel in the southern beach town of Unawatuna, Sri Lanka.
I am realising that hosting couch surfers along with other travellers who book the property would create an even better atmosphere and interactions at the hostel, which is why I am opening the hostel for couch surfing.
My other hobbies other than meeting and socialising with people from all over the world include chess, snooker, reading, travel, cooking, partying, road trips and any other activity where I can experience something new.
Looking forward to hosting you in Unawatuna
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am on couchsurfing because I own a backpacker hostel in Unawatuna, in the southern province of Sri Lanka, and I feel that hosting couchsurfers at the hostel will enhance the overall experience and the atmosphere of the hostel, while also helping to spread the word out about the hostel amongst travellers.
Interests
I think this is best discussed in person, over a cup of coffee, or may be a glass of rum and coke (yes that's my favourite drink :) )
- cooking
- partying
- movies
- chess
- snooker
- travel
- nature
- roadtrips
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I gave up a well paid job in a large corporate without any idea what I wanted to do next, spent a couple of years soul searching, started studying an entirely different field from scratch, and set out as an entrepreneur on my own.
I also miss exists on highways on a regular basis, and end up having to exit at the next exit and do a turn around :)
