About Me

April 1, 2020: We are temporarily unable to accept surfers. We hope you all are staying safe and healthy, and we are sorry we cannot host during this crazy time. :(
---------------------------------------------

Please note: we are generally quite busy with work travel. We love to host when we can, but it's not always feasible for us! To increase your chances, please READ OUR PROFILE (including the section about our home and guidelines), and take the time to determine if we are a good fit for your stay. Also, having a complete profile (references, some level of verification, photos and personal info) is a must.

ABOUT US

We have itchy feet. All the time. We're on the road a lot, but if we are around and able to host, we're happy to have visitors at our home! PLEASE read our profile before requesting, including the section about our home.

Ramey: I am a self-employed artist, graphic designer, photographer, and filmmaker. I laugh a lot and am simultaneously a hopeless cynic. I enjoy spending time in quiet, remote places. My hobbies include tennis, rock climbing, hiking, fishing, swimming, gardening, cooking, and making art of various sorts.

Ben: He's a contemplative kind of guy. He's also the most loyal friend a person could hope for, and is a genuinely nice person, despite his protests to the contrary. An avid climber, a hiking drill sergeant, an expert quiche chef and the world's best silent wind-chime maker. He also enjoys tennis, rock hounding, cycling and running.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We've been here for a while - 14 years and counting! We took a break for a few years because our house was not ideal for hosting and our lives were WAY too hectic. But we're back! We can provide info and a couch (when available)... Let's make this traveling community the best we can.

We have surfed in Canada, Peru, Belize, Jordan, Egypt, Mexico, and all over the US. We have hosted folks from the US, Canada, Turkey, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, South Korea, Russia, and a few other places. Nothing but love for CS!

Interests

One or both of us: Rockclimbing. Photography. Pie for breakfast. Running. Total silence. Synchronicity. The cold side of a pillow. Rain. Plunging myself into a situation where I feel entirely out of place. Our dogs. Physical labor. Gardening. Etymology. Surprising other people. Being surprised. Hiking and backpacking and celebrating the wild places that remain in this world. Fresh garlic and ginger. Cooking/eating. Laughing so hard my stomach hurts. Listening to other people laugh. Naps. Meeting new people who are very different than me. Tennis. Scuba diving. Seeing old friends who are all of a sudden much more interesting than I remembered them to be. Complexity. Simplicity. Cheap beer. Good beer. Trees. Painting. Reading. Writing. The randomness of a perfectly aligned universe. Thinking I have people figured out only to be proven completely wrong. Pita bread and real hummos. Travel. Sunlight. The gripping surrealness you can experience in dreams. Honesty. Kaleidoscopes. Recycling. Spontaneity. Human frailty. Radical ecology. Tofu stir-fry. Cold showers after a hard workout. Night swimming. Rock hounding.

Music, Movies, and Books

Yes please. :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ramey once played keep-away with wild dolphins underwater (at their instigation).

Ben hiked the entire PCT (Mexico to Canada) with his dog.

Teach, Learn, Share

Share: Photography. Climbing. Tennis. Cooking. Gardening. Ben is pretty handy with tools and cars and stuff, too.
Learn: Languages. Surfing. And ???

What I Can Share with Hosts

We love to get to know our hosts a little bit (as their schedule allows), and learn about their culture and the place they call home. We also like to share a meal or two during our stay, and we're happy to cook one of our favorite dishes for you! We can share stories, laughs, and lend a hand around your house if you need it. :)
