About Me

My background is a mixed bag of self employed contractor, writer of a book, and facilitator of personal growth events. Last year I spent 4 months volunteering in the Humanitarian Mapping sector in Sierra Leone and Tanzania. See that website at africanmotorcyclemapping.com (for the Sierra Leone project).

I'm usually based in Vancouver, Canada, but I'm planning to take my storytelling and events "on the road" in this upcoming year, 2018. Having a place to stay as I visit different places is such a blessing—the life of the storyteller is not one with big profits!

I'm 57, a good communicator, and respectful of differences and people's quirks. Very appreciative of simply having a roof over my head as I travel.

My (somewhat outdated) website is at mythicnature.com. Working on a new one this new year in 2018.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Limited budget as a worker in an alternative field (storytelling) that doesn't make a lot of money, and especially also to meet local people!

I don't mind being adaptable to completely take care of my own time and activities or get a chance to visit and explore the city a bit if I am so lucky to get an invitation to an event in your city!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Completed a 20 year project—the writing of a book. The full title is "Medicine Without an Expiry Date: Indigenous Remedy for Modern Trouble." It deals with the possibility of bringing indigenous "thinking" back in a modern context. The sources are varied, but very influenced by shared knowledge of the west African Dagara culture, ritual, initiation, and oral storytelling traditions.

Teach, Learn, Share

Open to listen and learn, and share any of my different skills where they are helpful.

I have spent quite a few years as an independent contractor, so I am pretty good with my hands fixing things. I've also spent a lot of time doing work with people and so I am a pretty good listener as well.

If I can help with reviewing or editing with any writing, I'm happy to do that!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My heart, my listening ears, my enthusiasm for encouraging people's unique gifts to be expressed in the world.
