About Me

My BeWelcome profile in case my CS subscription expires: https://www.bewelcome.org/members/RaphCosco/en

Hi there. I'm a 26 year-old translator and avid traveler, language learner and people meeter (is that a word?). I have traveled to amazing destinations for months on end, from East Asia between 2017 to 2019, to Central America in the past year, including almost a year in Western Europe in 2021 and 2022. I am very grateful about everything I learned in that journey.

Since I have received some of the best hospitality from the nicest people during my journey through Eastern Asia and Western Canada, I am ready to give back to the community. So hopefully I can create some beautiful memories for my guests like my past hosts did for me!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am a firm believer that before being Canadian, French, Westerner, etc., we're all humans and all share the same will of fun, friendship and happiness. But since we all grow up in different families, cities and countries, we do have some differences in how we act with the environment. That is, for me, another great reason to get on Couchsurfing : meeting people with different cultures, different stories to tell, different ways to act in company of others. It really opens your mind, doesn't it?

Interests

I am passionate about languages. It can be Spanish, Korean, Arabic, Swahili, whatever. Tell me about it. I also love French and teaching it to others, so if you have any question about it, please let me know! It would be my pleasure.

I am a fan of hiking and cycling, both urban and rural (just not a fan of riding alongside enormous SUVs and trucks). Some of my trips abroad are just for hiking sometimes.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music
My music taste is like the weather : You never know what it's gonna be in a week. I really enjoy tons of different styles of music, but my two favourite bands are Billy Talent and Fall Out Boy (I really like early 2000s rock and pop-punk).

Movies
I am sadly not a movie kind of guy...

Books
I am not the most passionate reader, but I make sure to at least read a few dozen pages per week. Right now, my favourite author is Will Ferguson, who is hilarious. I also loved When Breath Becomes Air... I would recommend it to anyone.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not a specific adventure, but basically using my improved Korean to seize oplortunitues I never could have had if I only spoke English. This includes but is not limited to : restaurants, tourist areas, hikes, temples, an apartment, coffee shops, "hidden gems" of bigger cities (Seoul and Busan), and most importantly, some unforgettable friendships!

Another one is hiking the Guatemalan volcanoes. Breathtaking views, and it confirmed that I really want to hike to many more places around the world.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can inform you about French and English, the culture of Quebec, the most interesting stuff in Montreal, and all the relatively nice hiking spots in the region. And sharing travel stories!

What I would like to learn : a bit of your mother language, what is life like in your city/country, what are some of your travel stories, but most of all, if you are the couchsurfer, what made you end up in Montreal!

What I like to share : food, beer, coffee, experiences, opinions, arguments, stories... yeah, pretty much everything. I love discussing about anything with other people (close friends or strangers)!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Aside from what I've mentioned in the paragraph above, I can obviously offer help with food, cleaning, etc. (all you would like to expect from a couchsurfer). Maybe invite you out to a restaurant if the opportunity arises.
