About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm a mother, teacher, and writer. I love nature, dancing, community, sincerity, poetry, and the stars. I've traveled a lot, lived for years in south america, lived in a van, ashrams, community houses, and permaculture communities. Diverse life experiences and getting to know people who come from different backgrounds than me gives me a sense of home as it widens my perception of this beautiful planet earth.

PHILOSOPHY

Connection! I majored in environmental studies in college and I used to believe that direct action to change our environmental practices was the most effective way to help this earth. Life has taught me that since humans are the ones responsible for the environmental catastrophe we face, it's humans who need to heal in order for the environment to heal. I believe connection with other humans is not only 100% essential to our survival on a practical level, it is also foundational to our mental and emotional well being. With so many living in poverty, or just in isolation regardless of what their house or income level looks like, we are collectively dependent on the systems that are destroying the earth. Most don't have the time or support to fully step into their gifts and return to the principle of service to others that is not only at the heart of every spiritual teaching, but it is also something that is within our basic human nature as an interconnected species, where each person's well being is dependent upon the well being of the whole. I like Couchsurfing because it is a place for people to give and receive from the heart.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have both hosted and surfed although right now I don't have a place to host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Used it between 2008-2014, and every experience was positive. Had my son in 2015 and haven't used it since, although just returning to it now in 2019

Interests

My primary interest is in being the best mother I can be to my son, and helping his spirit flourish without shame or conditioning of how he should be. Encouraging his connection with nature is also important to me. I like to write and am just getting back into that. I write stories for my son. I also like to dance (ecstatic dance and contemporary/modern dance), choreograph dances and perform, gather and sing with community, and host and attend women's circles and gatherings. I am interested in the cycles of nature and the universe and aligning with their rhythms. For this reason I was drawn to astrology, and recently started offering professional readings. For a long time I have been interested in living in community and in harmonious relationship to the earth, and hope to embody that in a more materialized way soon.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books- The Fifth Sacred Thing by Starhawk, and Sacred Economics by Charles Eisenstein.
Music-I love a lot of music. I especially like to listen to music on vinyl. string intruments, especially violin and cello move me quite deeply. my first musical love was Aerosmith when I was 7, and I then moved on to other rock bands from the 70s when I was a teenager, then Dylan and other old folkies, in recent years I've enjoyed singing mantra and like to listen to devotional music like Shimshai and Snatam Kaur, and a few artists that frequent my ears in the present are Ayla Nereo, Yaima, MaMuse and Rising Appalachia

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A 10 day rugged trek through the Amazon in 2011 still stands out as one of the greatest moments of my life, alongside birthing my son.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love teaching dance, and doing astrology readings. I can also help people with Spanish or English. I'm interested in learning about other peoples life stories and backgrounds.
