About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Renovating a music venue/art space in Nashville.

ABOUT ME

I have some pieces of paper that indicate education. They are at my mom's house on the wall. I own my own house in Nashville, TN- it has other things on the wall, like posters of the Boss, paintings, and funny stuff. I am renovating a house to turn into a venue/art space here in Nashville, called the Funhouse. I also am rehabing a historic home in east nashville. But I also substitute teach for Metro as "Mr. Jon." Kids like me because I let them hang out as long as they do (or pretend to do) most of their work.
Just to be open about myself also, I must say that Im under the distinct impression that my friends' future spouses will think Im a nut..but Im eccentric, thats all. There is a difference, right? ...right?

PHILOSOPHY

What is your personal philosophy?
I have this thought experiment where a foreign species lands here on Earth, and we begin cultural exchanges with them, but they require only one male and one female, what would these people embody? Of course, we would try to offer up the human that represents 'humanity' in some vague way. I want to try and be that dude- impossible? Yes, of course! But, hey, can't a man have dreams?

Why do you live your life?
To try and consistently become a better person; you know the mantra: "be cool!" I mean, dudes, we can really change things here. Right now I am working to move at the end of the year, then I will start saving money to buy a farm on the Cumberland Plateau (7-yr plan) and in my get-away I can do whatever I want.

Interests

1.the Funhouse!: an art space/venue that Im currently renovating/ transforming from the last remaining house on Chestnut St. to the first home of art/music/gathering as a venue in the neighborhood.
2.Carpentry: I love it all! I work best when I have plenty of time (I credit the union with that) to work on sweet trimwork, but i also dig framing houses (makes you feel like a real man) and even commercial work.
3.Green Buildings: especially the pilot programs exploring the possibility of applying voluntary "LEED" rules governing environmental impact to residential construction. (I'm a member of the US Green Building Council's local chapter.)
4.Substitute Teaching for Metro: the kids be cool, they just be rowdy sometimes. you just gots to know how to level with them... and showing them how good you are in basketball will also earn you respect. trust me- I had to demolish some arts magnet middle schoolers with my jumper before they truly respected me. no lie.
5.School!!: if you cant tell, I love going to school. I got a bunch of BAs from Memphis, then moved back home to do an interdisciplinary Masters program at Vandy and now ive just started an associates program at Nashville State in my spare time to broaden my architectural engineering knowledge- IM A NERD.
6.my '82 Camaro: man, come someone please help me finish this project? haha. My friends painted it hot pink because i left it in their garage for too long, so NOW i really gotta get it to run. Please be a mechanic.
7.MUSIC! I love to play in bands, watch bands play, have shows, go on tour, make music, bleep blow blare blew blassy blundrous bleeky

Music, Movies, and Books

I actually just cried at the end of "Twins." yeah, that Twins- the one with Danny Devito and Arnold. yeah i know. i couldnt help it. but, so you know, it was more of a tears coming ot my eye than it was an all-out crying.

also, john prine's 1971 s/t.

and now all i watch is "its always sunny in philadelphia"

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

1.I got shot by a rubber bullet in the WTO protests in Seattle '99. It hurt really bad. I was also tear-gassed and pepper-sprayed. That also hurt, but man oh man was it worth it!
2.Traveling North America by train alone in the summer of 2000 really blew my mind. I would sneak bottles of wine aboard and me and 'sancho panza', as I nicknamed each bottle, got to see some truly exceptionally awesome realities. I almost got kicked off for this, but I promised to behave.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach:
1.light-medium duty residential construction stuff.
2.sleeping-in
3.the financials of small businesses
4.introductory language stuffs and thingies

Can you share:
1.mechanics skills?
2.intense knowledge of a foreign language? (primarily romance but anything indo-european would be fun for me, i swear!)
